Nomar to Sign With Dodgers

From the Boston Herald, via Primer. It's only a one-year deal for a base salary of around $6 million plus incentives that could make the deal worth over $8 million. I can't believe the Pirates couldn't have topped that offer in both years and dollar value, but I'm not sure Garciaparra would have been willing to sign with the Pirates anyway. Either way, this is a shame, as Garciaparra is the only player left who could have been a big upgrade for the Pirates at a reasonable price.

Probably had no chance
I read at least one report that said Nomar told the Pirates he wasn't interested in playing for them.
