It's not often that you see a headline like "Lawton Suspended for Steroids, Signs Deal," but here you go. The Mariners get Matt Lawton for the bargain-basement price of $400,000. He'll miss the first ten games of the season and he won't exactly be great for P.R., but this deal really puts $16 million for Jacque Jones in perspective.

That the "mystery team" might be the Bucs occurred to me, but I highly doubt it. The Pirates have already spent a big chunk of the money they said they had available. And anyway, they have little to offer the D-Backs now that they've gotten rid of three starting pitchers.
