Washington vs. Pittsburgh, 21 June 2005

Ryan Drese (5-6, 5.79) vs. Oliver Perez (5-5, 6.22). Drese was getting destroyed pretty regularly with the Rangers, and he also got into a fight with one of his catchers. So it wasn't much of a surprise when the Rangers DFAed him, even though Drese pitched 200 innings last year with an ERA of 4.20 in a tough park for pitchers. Washington claimed him off waivers when they traded Tomo Okha to the Brewers, and Drese promptly made the move look great, pitching eight innings of shutout ball against the Angels in his first start for the Nats. Drese is a groundball pitcher who doesn't strike many people out.
