Craig Wilson Activated

The Pirates have activated Craig Wilson from the disabled list; David Ross has been sent to Indianapolis, where he'll presumably back up Ron Paulino.

1-8 and a Mess of Ks
Last season told me to not get too attached to ol' Craig.  He strikes me as a DH on a middling AL team.

Wilson
Well, he did hit 29 homers. Almost any team would be able to use him. He's by no means an elite fielder, but I think he's competent in first and right - he's not fast, but he reacts and hustles well, and gets to most balls you think he should get to.

The Thing That Kills Me About Wilson
Aside from the whiffs on breaking balls away, I don't know if the 29 HRs is what to expect from him.  He could hit 40 if he learns consistency and doesn't wear down, or he could be stuck around 20 forever.  Which part of last season is more indicative of his potential?

If I'm trying to build the team up, I keep him at first and try to get rangy guys in right.  I don't know.  I'm a defense guy, and although I know that right field at PNC doesn't exactly require a Van Slyke, I like having confidence that anything hit high and not out of the park is probably going to be caught.

I probably knock Craig more than I should.  I'm hard on these guys because I want them to succeed.
