I'll be on tour from now until January 7. I'll have some internet access between now and then, so I'll still update, but if updates are more sporadic or less timely than usual, you know why.

Will Zito be another Kevin Brown?

There are significant differences, of course. But Kevin Brown had monster stuff and he mostly fizzled after he recieved his moster contract.

I can comprehend the reasons for the Suppan deal more than this one.

Brown's legacy is what fizzled, not Brown

4 out of 7 seasons after that contract he was utterly lights out (99-01 and 03). Of the remaining three, one he was merely Good (04), and 2 he was, yeah, awful (02 and 05), owing to injuries, IIRC.

Yahoo! Sports writer Tim Brown (not the HOF wide reciever) has put up a column rating the winners and losers so far this off season.

He doesn't even bother to insult the Pirates. He only says that the Cubs, who've spent over $300,000,000 this off season, will win more games than them...
