WTM already has a summary of Day One of the Pirates' 2006 draft. Like last year, he's saying the Pirates overdrafted a bunch of players. Unlike previous years, they've actually reached for a couple of talented players with signability issues in the late rounds. Let's hope they get them.

I have a weird little conspiracy-theory idea that I probably should keep to myself, but - can somebody who knows tell me some things about the Cape Cod League? At least five of the Pirates' top ten picks played there. Is it possible the Pirates simply don't have enough scouts to draft well? Or would five out of ten be typical?
