Craig Wilson Signs with Atlanta

From the diaries. Fantastic move by the Braves - this may well end up being the biggest steal of the offseason. As for Wilson, he doesn't get much money, he can get a big contract next year if he plays well in 2007. - Charlie

Should have seen this coming...

ATLANTA (AP) _ Craig Wilson, who could contend for playing time or a starting job in left field or first base, agreed Thursday to a $2 million, one-year contract with the Atlanta Braves. I want the Pirates to win more games than the Braves. But given how Wilson was wronged by the Pirates, part of me wants to see him hit more homers than LaRoche.

He couldn't sign with Cleveland?
I wish he'd quit playing with teams I don't like.  But at least now we can watch him on TBS.  Godspeed, Craig Wilson.  I hope we sweep the Braves and he hits 3 HR every time.

Ha!
It's so rare when something I say actually comes true.  From yesterday in a thread below:

To complete the deal for the Braves...
all they have to do is sign Thor to play 1B.

It had occurred to me what a perfect way this would be for Schuerholz to make a further fool out of DL.  Trade LaRoche to the Pirates and then announce the signing of CW.

Imagine how much better the Buccos would be if they had just made Craiggers their 1Bmen, as they should have done 5 years ago.  They'd still have Gonzo to close, Ollie Perez for the rotation (no reason to trade for Nady), and Lillibridge to challenge for a MI job in '08.  Then they could have signed Huff and/or traded for Tracy for RF/3B and had Bautista and McClouth in that mix as well.  Almost appraoaching respectability.

Yeah but
let's don't forget, Craiggers disappeared after we traded him.  I don't know how to account for that but it can't mean anything super great.

$2M?
A shocking pittance.

Inconsistently consistent
Is there another player as streaky (positive connotation) or inconsistent (negative connotation) as Wilson? What's really a trip is that before he hit .212 last year, his five previous season batting averages were .264, .262, .264, .264, and .267. How do you end up so consistently in the same zip code when your splits are so disparate? Here's hoping he does his thing with the Braves and has a nice season in Atlanta.
