Trade for Prior

This is a bit of a pipe dream but, I wanted to throw it out there.  With Mark Prior trade value at an all time low and the Cubs have been rumored about possibly trading him I think this could be a good opportunity for the Pirates to take a chance on someone like him.  He is still relatively inexpensive and and maybe he could turn in a Chris Carpenter resurrection, someone who also battled shoulder trouble early in his career I might add, unfortunately I don't really know what the Pirates could offer to entice the Cubs to trade him our way.  Just something I was thinking about and I'm kind of curious as to what the reaction would be if we did acquire Prior.

Thanks

incentive-laden contract
He still has the raw talent. I wouldn't mind it if he was signed to an incentive-laden contract full of things like "pitch so many innings per year," "no more than _ days on the DL," etc.

If he's willing to take that kind of deal...
...then the Cubs won't trade him.

If he's not, then he wouldn't be a good investment for us.

Seeing how everyone is looking for
pitching and the FA market is hurting for quality talent, the Cubs could demand (and receive) more for Prior now than any other year. He has the talent, whether he can keep his body intact for an entire season is another issue altogether. The Bucs have enough young arms damaged and hurt already, picking up another would not be a prudent decision.

Nice thought,
but if the Cubs do move him, I doubt it will be to a team that they play so much.

The Pirates do have a lot of experience...
...working with "blowed up real good" pitchers, so bringing Prior in might be worth the effort.

On the other hand, the Pirates have rehabilitated exactly 0 of these injured hurlers.....

What Vlad said
Why would the Cubs trade him if he would accept an incentive deal?  If he won't, then we should want no part of him.  Incidentally, we ought to be glad Littlefield is gone, because he would have signed him for some goshawful amount of guaranteed money.
