Around SBN: Jeremy Lin Continues Rampage, New York Wins On Road

Joseph Bauserman

Anyone know if he went to play college football as I have not seen his name this year? He was of course considered to be a prospect as late as last year. He was a top HS football QB prospect and he almost committed to Ohio State until he was drafted in the 4th round by the Pirates in 2004. I remember reading last winter he was thinking about leaving baseball to play football but had forgotton about him until looking through minor league rosters this week.

Jason Quarles
I saw where he was released and wondering if he was not able to come back from the surgery he had or it caused such a drop in talent he was finished.

Bauserman's gone
He signed a letter of intent with OSU, and is going to have a go at playing QB there. (From the PG)

Not sure about Quarles in particular, but we've dropped a bunch of minor-league relievers with some degree of past success this year, including Steve Duguay and Jon Albaladejo. Probably injuries in both cases, but Dejan doesn't know and I don't trust Meyer enough to ask him.

Bauserman
Unlike JR House, who was released, the Pirates still retain Bauserman's rights.  A couple OSU alums have posted online that he's likely to be well down the depth chart there, as House was at WVU, so theoretically he could be back if the football career goes nowhere.

Good point.
That said, it's not like he was setting the world on fire from the mound, either.

Future
I am not sure I would bet on a Bauserman return.
As an OSU fan, they have been high on him for a while and he had to walk on only due to his making the decision to return (after his previous commitment)
late in the recruiting process and OSU not having one to give him.
It would not surprise me to see him on scholarship for the 2008 season if he keeps his head straight.

I spoke to some Hickory players about him earlier this year, report was that he was perpetually unhappy and sullen(which I saw when he was there in 06) and that pitching coach Dave Lundquist was "driven nuts by him" and "was thrilled to see him gone".
He had talent for sure, but just seemed to miss the higher profile life, football or disliked the minor league life.
Coule be any or all of those reasons.

Supposedly...
...when he was drafted, he was telling people that he'd bail on baseball if he wasn't in AA in three years. If that was the case, someone should've just sat him down and told him that it wasn't going to happen.
