Wow, as if tuning in to see the Bucs tonight and finding them already down 6-1 wasn't bad enough, the next couple of minutes I sat there, Greg Brown and Steve Blass effectively flicked off Pirate fans by saying that all the clammering for JVB wasn't warrented.
"People think when your starting pitching in the majors is struggling and your starters in the minors are having success, you should automatically call up the minor leaguer. It isn't that simple."
"The leap from AAA to te majors is a big one"
Wow. They effectively blamed PIRATE FANS AND THE MEDIA for running Armas and Chacon out of the rotation!
Does anyone think that bringing up JVB WASN'T the right move? Sure, he is as bad as Armas, but what else were we going to do? Keep totting that bum out there? I don't care if JVB's ERA was 4.50 prior to coming up, pretty much ANYTHING was an upgrade over Armas, and until his last 2-3 starts he was.
Maybe on a contending team, you don't bring up a minor leaguer when a starter is struggling, but these are the Pirates. Talk like that is absurd.
In fact, I wouldn't be suprised if Bob Nutting and Dave Littlefield were holding cue cards for them. in the backround.
