Trade Adam LaRoche?
The Chicago Tribune is reporting that the Giants are looking for a first baseman and willing to trade either Jonathon Sanchez or Matt Cain in return. If that is true then I think NH should investigate and see if they might accept LaRoche for one of these two pitchers. I've always been an admirer of Matt Cain and would welcome him to our rotations if possible. I've always been impressed by his Hits/IP ratio and the fact he is only 23 and throws right handed are both big plusses. On the other hand, Sanchez is two years older, throws left handed, and had a much higher ERA.
I was very surprised to read this article because it didn't make any sense to me from the point of the Giants but they might really need a big bat and LaRoche did end the season strong.

Not a bad idea at all to shop LaRoche, but to think we’ll get Matt Cain in return seems a little much doesn’t it? At a time in baseball where Jason Bay could only bring a few scrubs, hard to imagine Adam getting us good young value.
If that deal were to ever present itself the Pirates would jump on it.

I am skeptical that they'll move Cain.
And if they will, they’d probably want more than just LaRoche for him. Which still might be a good idea, depending on what else they ask for, but there’s no real way to tell at this point.
Sanchez is an interesting possibility. His peripherals are good, he’s still fairly cheap since he’s in his first year of arb, and his stuff is solid. We’d need to be very careful with the medicals, since he missed time with some shoulder issues last year, and then struggled after he came back.
Of course, a LaRoche trade would probably necessitate another move to find a new 1B (or OF if we go with Pearce at 1B).

Let's see...
a full season of Matt Cain…vs. 3 decent months of Adam LaRoche (knowing April is not one of those months). If that trade is straight up…I do it in a heartbeat and don’t look back.

More likely...
the Chicago Tribune is trying to make Cubs fans think they are getting one of those pitchers for a Cubs 1B not named Lee.

Heck,
I’d trade Neil Walker AND Adam LaRoche for Jonathan Sanchez and a PBTNL. Well, maybe not given Sanchez’s injury history. He did struck out a batter per inning last year. He walks way too many guys, but so doesn’t half our roster. They just don’t miss bats like Sanchez can. This team needs high end talent. I’d love to see NH take a shot on someone like Sanchez.

I agree with jlk9697, either of those 2 is a lot to expect for Adam. Perhaps a trade to the Yanks for pitching prospect Dellin Betances.
