Matt Murton

I see him as a viable option for our 4th OF and would much rather have him than Jason Michaels. Oakland may non-tender him or could be had for cheap return. His work for the Cubs leads me to believe he would at least give us a platoon option for Moss if he struggles versus LHP and would be a better option than most as a RH hitter off of the bench. He is decent defensively and for the money would be a good pickup.

I believe

I dont think this is the first time he has come up in Pirates talks over the years. I dont want him though. We dont need another outfielder and I think I would even want Michaels over him.

He'd be a decent NRI

There are some things to like on his track record, but he really wasn’t very good last year, and there are some corner players I like better (like John Rodriguez, for example).

Came over to read about the indian baseball players and saw this

I liked Matt Murton when he was with the Cubs but they just didn’t have anywhere for him to play on a regular basis. He never really seemed comfortable in a pinch hitting role either

As an OF his numbers are respectable: BA: .296 OBP: .361 Slugging: .449
As a pinch hitter…not so much: BA: .188 OBP:.278 Slugging: .297

he seems to really need consistent AB’s to be succesful

also, don’t start him anywhere but LF. He doesn’t have the speed for CF or the arm for RF.
(can you see why the Cubs may not have had a spot for him)
