Chris Duffy Gone

It appears that Chris Duffy has decided that his future no longer lies with the Pittsburgh Pirates. But...of course...we already knew that.

Duffy declares free agency

From the article, it is clear that Duffy flat out left his Mexican winter league team and that there was no illness involved. This makes at least the 3rd time that Duffy has left a team for very little reason in the last few years.

The article states that several others declared minor league free agency, including Franquelis Osoria, Melvin Dorta, Luis Ordaz, Luis Cruz, Matt Kata, Miguel Perez and Carlos Maldonado. Cruz is on the 40 man roster, so unless he  has been silently removed, that's not right.

Duffy either he will be out of baseball in a year, or some other team will get burned by his lack of commitment.

Cruz

Luis Cruz isn’t on the list at Baseball America. Sadly, they’re probably more on the ball with that than MLB.com is.

I’m waiting for Vlad’s report on that list. It may be a few days before he surfaces.

Was away at a wedding over the weekend. I’ll get cracking on it soon.

Chris Duffy

Finally Chris Duffy got released. He is like Manny Ramirez….. Without the hitting….fielding…..multimillion dollar contracts… so pretty much, he is a goner.

Also...a new first base coach.

Perry Hill…who used to be with the Marlins.

That is awesome news!

Perry Hills is one of the most respected infield instructors in the game. This is an extremely important hire considering we may lose Wilson. These are the kind of moves that often fly under the radar but go a long way to showing just how much the culture is changing with our current GM. I liked the Kerrigan signing but I’m extremely pleased we picked up Hill. Now I’m just waiting to see what kind of moves NH makes at the Winter Meetings, if any.

bring back macko

rob mackowiak? he was well loved in pittsburgh as a utility player and bringing him back would excite a good portion of the fan base. we could sign him for cheap and he would bring a spark any time he was in the lineup. he is one of the few players of the modern (aka since 93) era that was truly embraced by the fans. i for one would love to see him in a bucco uniform again
