Hill is best known as a first base coach and infield instructor for the Marlins. He abruptly retired in early 2007. He has a great reputation as a defensive coach; the Miami Herald calls him "the best infield coach in the business." He won't officially be an infield coach for the Pirates, of course, but hopefully he can help Andy LaRoche and the rest of a Pirates infield that has at times been lacking
