Tigers to Sign Adam Everett, Won't Pursue Wilson; Twins Enter Mix
The Post-Gazette reports that the Tigers will sign Adam Everett and will not trade for Jack Wilson. The Twins, however, could target Wilson.
These developments may reduce the likelihood that Wilson will be traded at all. The Twins have more interesting prospects than the Tigers do. Unlike the Tigers, though, the Twins have historically been very reluctant to trade prospects for veterans.

Appears Pirates price was too high
Maybe it’s for the best, since the Detroit prospects being thrown out to the press, did not sound so great anyway. It just seemed like the Pirates had extra catchers, relievers, and a shortstop, of which, Detroit needed all three. I would have liked to have seen Ronny, Jack, and one of our power throwers in a Tiger uniform!

A few more moves.
We are apparently one of five teams
We apparently signed Chi-Hung Cheng to a minor-league deal. He was a top lefty prospect with Toronto a few years ago (big curveball), then tore up his labrum pretty badly, and has had some trouble coming back. Still, he’s only 24 next year, and the potential return on cost is pretty good if he can get back to near where he was.

Well, shit.
I apparently mispiped the link on my first item. Re-posting:
We are apparently one of five teams interested in David Eckstein, with SD and Baltimore being two of the others. We’d use him at either 2B or SS, depending on a trade of Jack/Freddy.

An additional signing.
Yohan Silva, an outfielder previsously in Atlanta’s system, was signed and sent to AA.

Not a whole lot of bat there.
Guess they just need a backup for CF.

What can we expect the Twins to offer?
I had a quick look at MiLB and the Twins are thin on upper level shortstops.
Vlad’s post about Eckstien would seem to make sense, although he would play SS, surely?
So which pitchers are available from Minnesota?

Lots of arms.
Sickels’s top 20 is here. I’ve liked Mulvey since he was in the Mets’ system – he’d be a good get. He’s pretty much the opposite of Huntington’s style, though.
The team is supposedly willing to flip Freddy if the price is right. I could see them dealing him and keeping Jack.

Dispositionally...
…I bet Huntington likes Swarzak. And he’s not really essential for their roster, as currently constructed.

I'd like...
the idea of a Wilson for Swarzak deal.

Dodger Blue for Jack Flash not likely according to Yahoo Sports
“The Dodgers already reached a tentative agreement with third baseman Casey Blake on Monday and are making progress in resigning shortstop Rafael Furcal.”
Let’s go Twins….

Waiting for more information from BucDugout:
"2:17 pm – A couple more bits and bobs, and then a quick cruise around some of the relevant SB Nation sites, to see what they have to say about being involved in Twins rumors.
As brought up in the comments, Dejan Kovacevic of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette has suggested that the Twins are emerging as a suitor for Pirates’ shortstop Jack Wilson, now that leading contender Detroit appears to be on the verge of signing Adam Everett. Please, let it not be true!
Bucs Dugout is currently silent on the idea for the moment, but it’s been brought up in the comments. The Pirates are constantly rebuilding, I’m sure they could find something in our system they’d like."
Let’s hope so.

Jack
I don’t see the Twins spending that much money on Wilson. My guess is that he ends up a Dodger or remains a Pirate.

Perrotto at the BCT:
Atlanta wants Snell or Maholm, but isn’t willing to trade Hanson for either. Washington also likes Snell. Baltimore and Minnesota are in on Jack, a little bit, while LA and Detroit are both out. Baltimore is offering Daniel Cabrera (yick!) for him. Link.

Jack Wilson Is A Good Defensive SS

Ozzie Smith was “fun to watch”.

Detroit will still need
a shortstop for the 100+ games Everett will miss with injuries. Not to mention that in his prime, in his very very best year ever, he was average Jack. These days he’s about as close to a 0 OPS+ as you can get and keep a major league job. May be the first time in history a team needs to keep another shortstop around to be an OFFENSIVE replacement in late innings.
He DOES play enormous defense though. Or DID. And the price is hard to argue with.
