SI Article Quote -- Unrest

Are there player management issues already?

Star-divide

In his off-season activity article for SI, John Donovan says of the Pirates: "Players are so upset over inactivity -- signing Chris Gomez? -- that they're ripping management."

I do not live in Pittsburgh or spend any time looking at the Post-Gazette, so this and MLB.com are my main info sources.  What is the scoop here?  I read hyzduhq's blog about Bay's disappointment, but that seemed pretty mild.

Is there already player unrest without even one game played?  Or, is Donovan (who i think is the best of the SI dopes) brewing trouble from nothing?

Any insight?

Nothing I Can Think of
Other than Bay I cannot remember another player coming out and 'ripping' management this offseason. Even when Bay came out it was kind of tame really, like you had mentioned. So I don't know where he may getting his information that players are indeed ripping management. I may be wrong but I cannot think of another instance. Anyone else think of any other player that may have done this?

Nope
He probablt took Bay's comment and ran with that. He has been known to make stuff up.  At the same time, how thrilled can they be?

Bay
Bay is the only person that I know that has voiced displeasure.

Jack Wilson's "problems" were swept out during the house cleaning.

Ian Snell want to stay around. Obviously, Freddy is happy now.

It's not Jack Wilson
Bay's the only one I've read about that has complained.  Jack Wilson, for one, seems to be happy that major changes weren't made.  According to the Beaver County Times and Allegheny Times website, Jack is quoted in a Feb. 3 article saying:

"We had the team we wanted last year and we just didn't perform.  We have the right guys in place, I really believe that.

Nobody
From what I remember reading, most are happy to be staying on the team - Jack, X, Freddy. The only displeasure I remember other than JBAY is Sully not wanting to be traded.

Complain?
Most of these guys ought to get down on their knees every night and thank their God they have jobs in MLB, as crappy as many of them are. If there were 29 teams instead of 30, most of them would be riding buses in the minors.

Snell
To echo what was said earlier, Bay is the only one I remember complaining.

But in regards to Snell I seem to remember a few years ago him saying that as soon as his contract was up he was getting out of Pittsburgh.  I think it was on some ESPN radio show (Junker and Crow maybe).  I don't know if he would complain about the current team but he certainly is not thrilled about being in Pittsburgh.

I remember that.
There's some detail here.

Snell tends to shoot from the hip a little when he's answering questions; no way to know whether he still feels that way or not.
