Comin to visit!

Attn: PIRATES FANS!  I'm going to be visiting your beautiful ballpark in August with some of my buddies to see my Chicago Cubs but we have never been to the area.  I was hoping for a little bit of help from those of you that know the area well.  I'm looking for a hotel that is somewhat affordable and close to the ballpark.  We're flying in from Chicago on Aug 26 and going to the game that night.  The following day we're driving out to PA for a Phillies game.  Any help would be appreciated!!!  Thanks in advance!

I don't know either area well
But Philadelphia and Pittsburgh are both in PA.

Hotels
You can get good cheap ones if you're comfortable using Hotwire. When we stay for a weekend series (3-4 times a year) we check Hotwire first and usually get the Holiday Inn Greentree (shuttle to the airport - about 10-15 minutes from the park) for $50 or so. The William Penn shots up sometimes downtown - usually around $70 and it's possible to walk to the park.
If you've got time, hit the Church Brew Works - a renovated church that makes it's own beer. Can get directions on the Web.

I second
the Church Brew Works recommendation.  In fact I ate there last night!

Not too sure about hotels though.  Never stayed in hotels since I have lived here.

You're a Pirates fan?

Good recommendation
Tho for out-of-towners, finding the Church might not be easy. I was going to recommend Fat Head's or the Primanti's in the Strip.

Isn't there a hotel right next to the ballpark now?

Places I've stayed
I've stayed at a bunch of places whenever my parents would visit me in college. The Holiday Inn Express in the Southside will run about $130-150 a night and is right next to Pittsburgh's street of bars. It's about 1.5 miles from PNC Park. There is what used to be a Ramada that was nice, but it has since changed into a DoubleTree so it is probably more expensive now, but it is right on the free downtown subway. The Omni was about $225 a night 3 years ago and is next to the current DoubleTree former Ramada. Much like Chicago, Pittsburgh has GoogleStreetView that you can check out.

Springhill Suites
I forgot about this one but I think that is like $200 and is right across the street from PNC park

Not sayin', just sayin'
I'm sure this says more about me than you EndlessMike, but if I pay $200/night or more for a hotel, I better be getting the Springhill Spitzer Suite.

Hah!
Actually, I just paid roughly $240 a night for accommodations in Manhattan (W 79th Street, between Broadway and Amsterdam) for much of a weekend, though I'd suppose that's pretty damn cheap for where and when it was. (Got a discount rate while my daughter auditioned at grad schools).

but
But with a couple people in the room, the price goes down and there's the convenience.

One Tip
When you are driving from the airport to the city and you enter a tunnel, get your camera ready for what's on the other side...

hotels
There are a lot of hotels south of the city in Greentree and Robinson.  10-20 minute drive depending on traffic into the city.  And definitely an amazing view coming through the tunnel.
