Brad Lincoln Returns

It's really strange that Brad Lincoln was the fourth pick in the draft less than two years ago and now his return from injury is just a footnote. I say that not to pick on Post-Gazette writer Paul Meyer, believe it or not - it's amazing how little any of us even mention Lincoln. Given the amount of ink that's still wasted on complete busts like Bryan Bullington and John Van Benschoten, one would think that the return of a former first-round pick who isn't yet obviously a bust would warrant a little more excitement.

Anyway, Lincoln pitched against Red Sox minor leaguers yesterday. He threw only fastballs.

Brad Lincoln Returns
Yes,you would think that Lincoln's return to action would merit a little more coverage, and please refresh my memory on something.
When Van Benschoten was drafted, weren't the Pirates the ONLY team in MLB that considered him a pitching prospect first, rather than a 1B/OF?

considering that
Morris continues to blow goats, I agree that Lincoln's story might have a little more upside.

I don`t see the connection
between Morris and Lincoln. Lincoln has a long way to go this season to even prove he can pitch effectively in the minors without any setbacks. Morris will either pitch well enough to allow the Pirates to trade him, or they will be saddled with his contract for the whole season.

As far as JVB and his abbreviated college pitching career goes, I remember him pitching only in relief. Why the Pirates thought he would be a quality starting pitcher in MLB someday when no one else seems to have even considered him for the role coming out of the draft is beyond me.

JVB, and Bullington for that matter, might make useful AAA starters again, but I wonder if they will even be on the 40-man roster after the season is finished? But then again, JVB and Bullington are old news. They aren`t part of the Pirates` future as far as I can see.

Maybe we should just stop talking about them and focus on the minor leaguers who seem to have a future with the big club.

the problem with that is
how many minor league starting pitchers not named lincoln or moskos have a future with the pirates?  duke welker?  anthony watson?  i don't think we'll ever see moskos as a starter in the bigs.

we'd better get some pitching during the inevitable fire sale...
