Marlins vs. Pirates, 22 April 2008
Miami Marlins at Pittsburgh Pirates, Apr 22, 2008 7:05 PM EDT
Ricky Nolasco against Paul Maholm, 7:05. Here's the box.
Yesterday's crowd was apparently the third-lowest in PNC's history - perhaps this sterling matchup will bring out the fans. There's some kind of T-shirt promotion, which should help.
While you wait, check out what Baseball Prospectus has to say about the Bucs' defense.

spin the weel
is it a lazy grounder or a lazy fly ball…nevermind, it’s a fly ball
another great inning

I charge Derg, Bixler and Maholm to take pitches
make him pitch at least 9 in an inning, please people
to tell the truth
I’m not entirely sure how it came about, but my friends and I have been calling Mientkewickz by it for years though

The first hit of the game for the Pirates
comes from the pitcher.

I’m probably going to regret saying this so early, but Maholm looks pretty good tonight.
.500 or bust...
and
he still has our only hit

It'll be better news
if he can get it to stay fair.

Ugh, that’s an embarrassing strikeout by Bixler.

How has Nate been caught so many times this year?
by Charlie Wilmoth on Apr 22, 2008 8:37 PM EDT reply actions
This time, he wasn't
The ump blew it. Twice.
Well, I mean the fact that it was a bad call doesn’t help.
by Charlie Wilmoth on Apr 22, 2008 8:38 PM EDT reply actions
Correction
TWO bad calls. Nate’s foot was in first, and the ball was dropped during the tag and not the exchange anyways.
where is Mac
we really need someone tearing a base off the field to protest that call
I must admit
I was pretty disappointed to see Russell just kind of trot out there and discuss this amiably…
Russell
I wish he would just go nuts out there. Zero emotion

He was safe on two counts
and now maybe they cost us the game!!!!
of course
if we can’t score more than one run…..
But, it’s the principle.

NATE SMASH!
Maybe McClouth will go all Incredible Hulk on the ball next time he’s up…
.500 or bust...
Okay
after the Freddy single Russel should have been thrown out of the game, no excuses.
On another note, tie ballgame!
i strongly agree

Gotta wonder why
The Marlins aren’t in “stall so the bullpen can warm up real quick” mode. We’re pasting Nolasco right now.

Curious people want to know...
actually, it’s my son who asked. Have the Pirates won a game at home yet this year?
Thank you...
...we had descended so deeply into despair and despondency that I deftly didn’t remember that.
Don't know why Nolasco pitched to Nady
but I’ll take it
Oh, yeah, by the way
X-Man!!!!
Sorry, Gameday didn’t show what happened until after LaRoche K’d.

Does anyone know...
why Maholm led off the inning if they were going to replace him with Yates? Is he hurt?
"Hope his eye didn't pop out"
NOT FUNNY, BLASS. NOT FUNNY.
Is killing us
5 for 8. Two doubles and a homer in the series.
Might be time for a high and tight one
Is Meek in the game yet?
I would guess 94-96MPH flame is meant to screw them up after 5 innings of left-handed lollipops.
oh my....
that hit by gonz. was BIG…..now its Yates vs. Hanley with 2 out 1st and 3rd with a 1 run lead

We want Meek! We Want Meek! WE WANT MEEK!!
No reason to fool ourselves. Let’s take the loss and solidify our first round draft pick.
Whoa
I think the ump gave us a call there. Made up for his partner at second.
WOW
3-0 pitch…...doug M at third….weak grounder….late throw in the dirt…..AND SOMEHOW we are out of the inning

Has anyone looked at our team
batting and pitching stats recently? I haven’t had the spirit (or courage?) to do so. And considering the last couple of games, I’m not sure I want anyone telling me where we rank in team pitching ERA, team batting average, or anything else. But will someone tell us when its safe to look again?
BIG BULL RIDER!!!
