Morris gone

released. Dumatrait starting Thursday. JVB in bullpen.

Accountability

It would have been nice to get something out of or for Morris, but I give the ownership credit for eating $10 million and taking a chance on JVB. Let’s see one more time if he can make it in the majors. Not optimistic, but he can’t possibly be worse than Morris, and we’ll get a question answered.

Dumatrait may take Morris` spot in the rotation for now,

but I don`t know if I buy the idea from Meyer`s story that JVB may only be around a couple of days til Sean Burnett is called up. I still think that Zach Duke is getting pretty close to earning a plane ticket to Indy to see if he can learn to make hitters actually miss his pitches on occasion.

Holy CRAP

Nate destroyed that pitch.

Maholm

is a SAINT. At this rate we might get through the sixth inning with our starter!

LaRoche

just upped his average from .145 to .156

And Jose

went from .173 to .184 with that RBI single

Anybody watching?

What happened to Bautista? Gamecast has him thrown out @ plate?

I’m not watching today – just “watching” on Yahoo – but he got thrown out at home on Rivas’ single.

by Charlie Wilmoth on Apr 27, 2008 2:32 PM EDT up reply actions

ESPN

Gamecast said, “Rivas singled to center, Bautista thrown out at home, Bautista to third advancing on play.”

Dude

I thought that was a daquiri. Tomato juice? Bleech.

Bloody Caesar. Yum.

I don't know what's in that

But just give me the booze straight then!

It’s a Bloody Mary made with Clamato instead of just tomato juice. I doctor it up quite a bit with worcestershire, tabasco, horseradish etc.

Karma

I don’t want to jump the gun and jinx them, because they could implode any second. But is anyone else getting a different “feel” today? Like, releasing Morris needed to happen before they could become an actual professional baseball team? And hopefully Meek is on notice.

by azibuck on Apr 27, 2008 2:51 PM EDT reply actions

I’ve been thinking that, and I’m not even watching the game, just the boxscore. It’s not following the same pattern. Almost certainly a coincidence, but still. That’s exactly what my game recap is/was going to be about.

I'm watching

And the thing that got me was the grounder to Rivas. He looked so smoothe, it was… different. (Shrug). Really, a feeling more than anything.

dunno...

I’m “watching” on ESPN gamecast – can’t SEE the game.

But Maholm has only thrown 64 pitches through 6 innings…

and they’re letting Maholm hit…

Not a very good sequence to Howard there.

by Charlie Wilmoth on Apr 27, 2008 3:09 PM EDT reply actions

Heh

I wrote that, then pulled up the box. 76 pitches, 40 strikes, 36 balls. It sure seems like he’s been in control of every pitch.

by azibuck on Apr 27, 2008 3:14 PM EDT up reply actions

He’s under 80 pitches thru 7, and only 2 hits. The 4 walks haven’t hurt too much. eep.

Time for X to break up his o-fer.

Looks like a botched hit and run?

by Charlie Wilmoth on Apr 27, 2008 3:24 PM EDT reply actions

dunno – gamecast had the count 1 – 2, and skipped right over to LaRoche.

I’m watching the game now. I’m surprised they had Bay steal third, and Nady swung at a really bad pitch.

92 pitches

thru 8. Does Russ leave him in?

I don’t know, but I guess we’ll know in a few minutes. He’s due up third in this inning.

I thought for sure Bautista was out there.

Maholm batting. Guess we have the answer.

Not sure why

But Walk talking about the fake-to-third-fake-to-first move never working cracked me up.

by matskralc on Apr 27, 2008 3:46 PM EDT reply actions

Yeah, that was pretty funny.

by Charlie Wilmoth on Apr 27, 2008 3:51 PM EDT up reply actions

Stuff like that is why I love Walk so much

An announcer doesn’t have to be a VORPhead for me to like him. Walk is just fun to listen to and that’s all I ask. Guys like, say, Joe Morgan are not only morons with a skewed misunderstanding of the game, they aren’t any fun to listen to, either.

by matskralc on Apr 27, 2008 3:56 PM EDT up reply actions

CG, 99 pitches. Wow.
