Around SBN: Jeremy Lin And How The Pac-12 Missed Him

Pirates 5, Braves 2

This was a nice step forward for Tom Gorzelanny, not only in that he only allowed two walks, but in that his velocity was better than it's been recently. He got his fastball up to 91 MPH, which still isn't where it was in 2006, but his velocity was still significantly better than it was a few weeks ago. The Bucs also turned four double plays, which involved some good timing, but it also had something to do with the fact that the Braves had twelve grounders against Gorzelanny versus just five fly balls.

Jason Michaels had three hits for the Bucs, making good, at least for today, on John Russell's bizarre idea to bat Michaels third.

The only piece of bad news is that Freddy Sanchez's shoulder troubles still linger -- he made a couple of awful throws to first.

Come on, Charlie

Did you HAVE to throw in the dig at Russell and the note about Freddy?

First time post

I’ve been reading this blog for a while now, and figured I’d join (especially since it is free). I like your style Charlie. You know what you are talking about and tell it like it is. Don’t change a thing. People like me come to this site for good information – information that is free of spin.

Thanks. I don’t have much to add, but I appreciate that.

Freddy's shoulder

He said on the postgame show after Friday’s game that he reinjured it in DC. Maybe he should take some time off if he’s hurt?

I'm thinking

that Pirates management hope he ‘guts it out’ until Jack Wilson gets back. I’m sure they don’t want to go with 2 utility men in the middle of the infield.

Oh my god

we have seen the Bixler/Rivas tandem, and I don’t want to see it again.

Even Bixler/Gomez wouldn’t be very pretty.

And

Gomez/Rivas would be a nightmare.
