Duke with the K!
Jurrjens can really handle the bat, so don’t dismiss it.
Watching on Gameday
Duke to Chipper:
84mph fastball
83mph changeup
That’s just not going to work, regardless that it worked, there.
1 hit & 3 errors
through 4.5 for the Buccos.
That’s not very exciting…

All 3 errors
looked like mental lapses, too… Not to make excuses, but I think the cold weather is making everybody sluggish
Also, 3-mile high pop-up base hit!
.500 or bust...
Bixler hurt?
Is that the “injury delay” on Gameday?
The Utah Jazz
A disillusioned Pirates fan in Utah...
I take it he's fine though...
as he’s still in the game

Now that Freddy's back...
can we move McLouth back to lead-off?
He’s disappeared since moving down…

I know it's not a save situation...
but why not just let Capps finish it off?

You have
anyone in particular in mind?
Or just anyone else?

Yates
seems to have disappeared as of late.
Or maybe I’m just not paying close enough attention.

I guess I just haven't paid close enough attention.
The Utah Jazz

Because he was good in AAA.
And because no one else in our bullpen was very exciting.

burnett at 91 mph
see 91 and 90 on the gun…i guess that is good (for burnett). Doesn’t fit with NH’s power arms in the bullpen approach though.
is the 2nd game on FSN?

Yeah. Okay...
was gonna say, 3:40 MST would’ve been like 2.5 hours off.
Didn’t seem right…

Is this the thread for Game 2?
And is the game still gonna start at 2:05 MST?

how bizarre!
I don’t think I’ve ever seen* a victory, much less a shutout, as bizarre as that one. even after Laroche’s homer, the final line was 5 runs, 5 hits, and 4 errors for the Bucs. combined with Duke’s line of 6 IP, 5 H, 5 BB, and just 3 K, as well as Burnett’s “you mean I’m NOT supposed to let the other team on base?” start to the 9th inning, there’s no way I would have predicted the pirates were on the winning side.
“seen” = by watching an automatically updated box score on yahoo.com
wow
a clean first inning for JVB

At least
the Braves announcers can pronounce his name, unlike the morons in Washington
.500 or bust...
another lead!
all we need is a shutout from JVB!!

they never learn
that these 12:35 starts dont sell. I understand the idea, but this isn’t Chicago.

Black Hole

I'll take it so far
Up till now my friends and I referred to JVB as the “human white flag”—as in when he comes in we basically concede the game. Kind of like Ryan Vogelsong’s role a few years back

0 balls and 2 strikes on jvb
also known as the jason bay count
fun fact about JVB
both of his career MLB hits were for extra bases (a homer in 2004 and a double last year)
after popping out today his first time up, he is now 2 for 17 for a career average of .118 behind the plate.
that homer
was his first MLB at bat ( i think)

Lineup question
Why Minky 2nd? He’s 1/2 and scored, so I’m asking more generally. For that matter, why Bautista 2nd?
he's baaaaaack
JVB remembered he’s no longer in INDY

Why'd JVB
get the start today?
Just curious… is he in the rotation now?

on the bright side... normalcy!
that 5th inning was a return to reality. JVB’s season ERA is now comfortably above 9, just like last year, and he once again has more BB than K in his MLB career (as a pitcher). plus, he’s on the hook for another L.
HUZZAH! all is right in the world!
He could have beat it out if there were no infielders.

all right, Nate!
great job getting your first hit of the day. now all we need is a 7-run home run from Bay, and we’re tied!
