Ryan Doumit has been placed on the DL with a broken thumb. Raul Chavez has been recalled to take his place on the roster.

Obviously, this is bad for any number of reasons -- Doumit was a very productive hitter, and now we're going to have a couple weeks to get reacquainted with Ronny Paulino. But at least we can't chalk this up to Doumit's usual injury troubles. There isn't really any amount of conditioning that can save you from a broken thumb. And the fracture isn't serious, so Doumit could return fairly soon, although I hope his power won't be gone when he does.
