Cardinals 5, Pirates 1

This one didn't go so well, but don't blame Paul Maholm, who gave up four earned runs despite racking up strikeouts and flashing good stuff all night. The Bucs' defense left a lot to be desired, particularly on a weird play in the sixth in which 0-for-3vas completely lost a very catchable fly ball. He jogged to catch the ball over his head, then let it fall only a few feet behind him. Rivas didn't get an error, but the play led to two runs. The Bucs also managed only four hits -- all singles -- off Todd Wellemeyer and the Cards' pen.
