Color me confused
Pirates webpage reporting Lincoln is pitching for Lynchburg tomorrow…not Hickory. Which is it, I wonder?

He pitched well-
5 innings, 1 run, struck out 3, and didn`t walk a batter. Hopefully he`ll be another possible piece of the puzzle for the starting rotation sometime in 2009.

sometime in 2009
unless you mean the altoona rotation i think it’s a bit dubious to expect a guy with 7 career professional starts to compete for a major league job a year after returning from serious arm surgery. don’t get me wrong, i think he’s a talented pitcher but i’m not quite that optimistic.

I thought the same thing,
but, man, it is kind of nice to dream of a hard-throwing righty in our rotation.

I suppose that was just from the box score,
but do you know of any way to find out how hard he threw?

There are a lot of “ifs” involved, but I don`t think it`s too far out there to think that Lincoln could be pushing for work in Pittsburgh a year or so from now. To start the 2009 season, no, but summertime 2009, perhaps yes. He will be 24 this time next year, and should be either on the fast track to proving he can pitch in the big leagues, or showing that he`s the next Bryan Bullington. I`m going to stay positive til I see something health-wise/performance-wise that makes me change my mind.

i could certainly see him in the best case as a late 2009 call-up to pitch out of the bullpen or make a few spot starts. i can’t see him as having had his inning total built up to be a full-time contributing member of the major league rotation. again this is all speculation that (perhaps unfairly) assumes he pitches up to his pre-surgery ability right away and suffers no setbacks. he’s only made one start and he’s made it months ahead of expectations. i’m not ready to declare him full speed ahead in his development quite yet.
i should point out that i hope i’m completely wrong about this and you end up on the winning side of this discussion. the pirates need young pitching talent in the worst way.
