Typical Pirate start

Sanchez grounds into a double play. UGH

I know it’s early so far, but Dumatrait definitely makes me feel better than Morris did…

.500 or bust...

by phillybucco on May 2, 2008 8:07 PM EDT reply actions

With Morris Starting

it would be 5 nothing right now. That being said, I take comfort that the new regime had the courage to eat the 10 Mil it was saddled with by the Keystone cops.

by Trogluddite on May 2, 2008 8:15 PM EDT reply actions

Yeah, we’ve been working him pretty hard. Reminds me of how we tried to handle Santana the other night.

This must be what it’s like for fans of other teams when they get to watch them play us.

by matskralc on May 2, 2008 8:29 PM EDT reply actions

I just had to log on and tell someone

that I am flabbergasted at how well Dumatrait has looked through two innings. Where did this 92-94 mph consistent fastball come from? How many off-speed pitches has he thrown? At some point he’ll have to throw more benders, but right now his fastball has velocity and great movement.

OMG Bautista!

.500 or bust...

by phillybucco on May 2, 2008 8:31 PM EDT reply actions

Who are these guys?

and what did they do with our Pirates?

by Thunder on May 2, 2008 8:32 PM EDT reply actions

Lumber Company

Maybe the Bucs are preparing for Willie Stargell Lumber Company Bobblehead night next Friday.

by JimBibbySweat on May 2, 2008 8:33 PM EDT up reply actions

I almost made it here before the first run crossed the plate.

That would’ve been shocking.

Nice start for the offense and Dumatrait. Wish the game was not blacked out on mlb.tv for me.

by MarcB on May 2, 2008 8:36 PM EDT reply actions

Wehner and Frattare

How about Wehner responding to Frattare’s comments that LaRoche was scratched because of a jammed wrist. Wehner said that LaRoche put on his best batting practice display of power all season long. Frattare didn’t respond, he just moved onto another topic. Think a lefty pitcher put LaRoche on the bench?

by JimBibbySweat on May 2, 2008 8:37 PM EDT reply actions

Gameday is way behind right now...

Jose K is still batting.

sounded ugly on the radio

by MarcB on May 2, 2008 8:42 PM EDT reply actions

phil

he’s been effective out of the bullpen so i dont see it as a shock that he’s throwing well now…..but he has started to struggle after a few innings….so watch out.

i mean

this season he’s struggled after 2 innings or so

that is my exact thoughts… but i mean our broadcasters were never good in my opinion so I dont care what they talk about

by MarcB on May 2, 2008 8:48 PM EDT up reply actions

Wow… what’s this strange feeling I’m experiencing while watching this game? It’s almost like… happiness…?

.500 or bust...

by phillybucco on May 2, 2008 8:53 PM EDT reply actions

I have to give Bautista credit… while he didn’t get the out, that is the kind of play that, earlier in the season, would have been hilariously tragic.

.500 or bust...

by phillybucco on May 2, 2008 8:57 PM EDT reply actions

The ball

would have ended up in right field or the 3rd row.

by Thunder on May 2, 2008 9:08 PM EDT up reply actions

My goal for the end of this season, is to make you guys more positive thinkers. Always thinking that we can not hold leads, etc..

by MarcB on May 2, 2008 9:12 PM EDT reply actions

Of course we can hold leads

both of them we have over the course of the full year.

by Trogluddite on May 2, 2008 9:19 PM EDT up reply actions

I have the game on mute

is it going to get started again soon?

by DITO on May 2, 2008 9:18 PM EDT reply actions

some of the lights have come back on

by poorboywilly on May 2, 2008 9:20 PM EDT up reply actions

Well...

The announcers said that they might suspend the game, but the on-field announcer lady said that they could potentially have to replay the game at a later date, thereby eliminating our awesome lead :(

.500 or bust...

by phillybucco on May 2, 2008 9:20 PM EDT up reply actions

Never mind, looks like we’re getting back on track.

.500 or bust...

by phillybucco on May 2, 2008 9:21 PM EDT up reply actions

oh man

hopefully this doesn’t affect dumatrait too much…just about as long as a half-inning break, right?

by DITO on May 2, 2008 9:21 PM EDT up reply actions

23 minute delay.

.500 or bust...

by phillybucco on May 2, 2008 9:22 PM EDT up reply actions

quick warm up for dumatrait… hes ready to go

by MarcB on May 2, 2008 9:23 PM EDT reply actions

I wish I could see the pitches instead of listening to it.. ugh

by MarcB on May 2, 2008 9:31 PM EDT up reply actions

He's still throwing hard enough,

ranging from 89-93, but he keeps missing his spots, he’s low a lot.

by DITO on May 2, 2008 9:34 PM EDT up reply actions

We still got this game. Just need to end this inning.

by MarcB on May 2, 2008 9:33 PM EDT reply actions

Whew… we need to put up about 6 more so I can feel comfortable again.

.500 or bust...

by phillybucco on May 2, 2008 9:34 PM EDT reply actions

I feel comfortable still. After all we are playing the Nationals.

by MarcB on May 2, 2008 9:35 PM EDT up reply actions

And Nate has his motor running tonight

And Doumit is in and LaRoche is not

I think we’re going to be okay here

by DITO on May 2, 2008 9:36 PM EDT up reply actions

That was a pretty good pitch

It was on the outside corner, but it was a breaking ball lefty to lefty. I don’t know how you don’t swing at that.

by DITO on May 2, 2008 9:35 PM EDT reply actions

The 4th inning has proved to me

Dumatrait is not starter-material. He has to get outs on the 2nd and 3rd go round through the order and he has failed to do that.

by Bad Andy on May 2, 2008 9:35 PM EDT reply actions

You are definately right,

but he’s shown enough that he deserves another look or two. I least he isn’t putting a ton of people on base for free, and he has struck out four.

by DITO on May 2, 2008 9:38 PM EDT up reply actions

Agreed

But really anything is better than the retired Matt Morris at this point

by Bad Andy on May 2, 2008 9:40 PM EDT up reply actions

Bautista is hot tonight!

.500 or bust...

by phillybucco on May 2, 2008 9:41 PM EDT reply actions

Okay.

When does he start serving his 25 game suspension? A think a 2 home run game is prima facia evidence of steroid use f/Jose B.

by Trogluddite on May 2, 2008 9:42 PM EDT reply actions

I don't know who Mike O'Connor is

but he has a pretty nasty little hook

by DITO on May 2, 2008 9:43 PM EDT reply actions

Looks like Marte is up.

.500 or bust...

by phillybucco on May 2, 2008 9:47 PM EDT reply actions

I wonder if McClouth leads the league in broken bats. I don’t see nearly as many from anybody else on any team I’ve watched this season.

.500 or bust...

by phillybucco on May 2, 2008 9:57 PM EDT reply actions

Not sure. For a while there, I tried to ignore his at-bats because they were pretty pathetic.

.500 or bust...

by phillybucco on May 2, 2008 10:01 PM EDT up reply actions

i think the pirates must have a termite problem

by MarcB on May 2, 2008 10:03 PM EDT reply actions

Grabow in the 7th

Capps in the 8th and 9th for a two-inning save? He hasn’t pitched in a while.

by DITO on May 2, 2008 10:08 PM EDT reply actions

The announcers were saying earlier that there is a pretty big dead space in the middle of the park where those balls just kinda die out.

.500 or bust...

by phillybucco on May 2, 2008 10:10 PM EDT up reply actions

Man, the Nats bullpen is all sorts of wild so far.

.500 or bust...

by phillybucco on May 2, 2008 10:15 PM EDT reply actions

Adam LaRoche now needs to do something here. Get out of that slump! Today is the day to start.

by MarcB on May 2, 2008 10:19 PM EDT reply actions

Are we surprised

he struck out on 4 pitches?

by Thunder on May 2, 2008 10:20 PM EDT reply actions

Yes.

I was expecting it in 3.

Wowser. This is pretty cool.

by phillybucco on May 2, 2008 10:31 PM EDT reply actions

Chill out X

At least you still lead the NL in RBIs…..someone out there will want you come July.

by Bad Andy on May 2, 2008 10:33 PM EDT reply actions

Nick Johnson

looks like a firefighter or maybe a security guard.

.500 or bust...

by phillybucco on May 2, 2008 10:43 PM EDT reply actions

Did that pick look as good as the announcers made it sound on the radio?

by MarcB on May 2, 2008 10:57 PM EDT reply actions

Yes, it was pretty sweet, just missed the out by a half a step.

.500 or bust...

by phillybucco on May 2, 2008 10:58 PM EDT up reply actions

You know, there wasn’t a whole lot not to like in the game tonight. Good effort all around! Now, we need score a couple of wins back-to-back.

.500 or bust...

by phillybucco on May 2, 2008 10:57 PM EDT reply actions

Good win buccos! Sucks Dumatrait could not get that win…

by MarcB on May 2, 2008 10:57 PM EDT reply actions

What was the error we got charged with? The announcers didn’t really talk about the game after the 5th…

.500 or bust...

by phillybucco on May 2, 2008 10:59 PM EDT reply actions

Freddy

on a relay throw when Nats scored their 1st run.

by Thunder on May 2, 2008 11:01 PM EDT reply actions

Ah, thanks.

.500 or bust...

by phillybucco on May 2, 2008 11:02 PM EDT up reply actions

Jose Bautista with a big game tonight-

and do we ever need it to continue.

I still think Freddy has some sort of problem with his arm that they are trying to keep under wraps because it can`t be corrected during the season without him missing a bunch of time. I might be completely off-base, but we`ll see.

Capps, Marte, Grabow and Yates-definitely something to work with.
