Typical Pirate start

Sanchez grounds into a double play. UGH

by Bad Andy on May 2, 2008 7:38 PM EDT   0 recs

I know it’s early so far, but Dumatrait definitely makes me feel better than Morris did…

With Morris Starting

it would be 5 nothing right now. That being said, I take comfort that the new regime had the courage to eat the 10 Mil it was saddled with by the Keystone cops.

by Trogluddite on May 2, 2008 8:15 PM EDT   0 recs

Yeah, we’ve been working him pretty hard. Reminds me of how we tried to handle Santana the other night.

This must be what it’s like for fans of other teams when they get to watch them play us.

by matskralc on May 2, 2008 8:29 PM EDT   0 recs

I just had to log on and tell someone

that I am flabbergasted at how well Dumatrait has looked through two innings. Where did this 92-94 mph consistent fastball come from? How many off-speed pitches has he thrown? At some point he’ll have to throw more benders, but right now his fastball has velocity and great movement.

by JimBibbySweat on May 2, 2008 8:30 PM EDT   0 recs

OMG Bautista!

by phillybucco on May 2, 2008 8:31 PM EDT   0 recs

Who are these guys?

and what did they do with our Pirates?

by Thunder on May 2, 2008 8:32 PM EDT   0 recs

Lumber Company

Maybe the Bucs are preparing for Willie Stargell Lumber Company Bobblehead night next Friday.

by JimBibbySweat on May 2, 2008 8:33 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I almost made it here before the first run crossed the plate.

That would’ve been shocking.

Nice start for the offense and Dumatrait. Wish the game was not blacked out on mlb.tv for me.

by MarcB on May 2, 2008 8:36 PM EDT   0 recs

Wehner and Frattare

How about Wehner responding to Frattare’s comments that LaRoche was scratched because of a jammed wrist. Wehner said that LaRoche put on his best batting practice display of power all season long. Frattare didn’t respond, he just moved onto another topic. Think a lefty pitcher put LaRoche on the bench?

by JimBibbySweat on May 2, 2008 8:37 PM EDT   0 recs

Gameday is way behind right now...

Jose K is still batting.

WTH with Dumatrait?

Not to jinx him or anything mind you.

by Hitman Easler on May 2, 2008 8:40 PM EDT   0 recs

Looks like the Nats have caught up with Dumatrait's fastball a bit

Sanchez airmails a relay throw home over Doumit. Is that necessarily a bad thing?

by JimBibbySweat on May 2, 2008 8:44 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Oh man… that was ugly.

.500 or bust...

by phillybucco on May 2, 2008 8:42 PM EDT   0 recs

sounded ugly on the radio

by MarcB on May 2, 2008 8:42 PM EDT   0 recs

phil

he’s been effective out of the bullpen so i dont see it as a shock that he’s throwing well now…..but he has started to struggle after a few innings….so watch out.

i mean

this season he’s struggled after 2 innings or so

that is my exact thoughts… but i mean our broadcasters were never good in my opinion so I dont care what they talk about

by MarcB on May 2, 2008 8:48 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Wow… what’s this strange feeling I’m experiencing while watching this game? It’s almost like… happiness…?

.500 or bust...

Give it a while

the night is young.

by Thunder on May 2, 2008 8:55 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

And the lights go out in Washington

the night is not only young, but dark

by JimBibbySweat on May 2, 2008 8:59 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I have to give Bautista credit… while he didn’t get the out, that is the kind of play that, earlier in the season, would have been hilariously tragic.

.500 or bust...

by phillybucco on May 2, 2008 8:57 PM EDT   0 recs

The ball

would have ended up in right field or the 3rd row.

by Thunder on May 2, 2008 9:08 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

My goal for the end of this season, is to make you guys more positive thinkers. Always thinking that we can not hold leads, etc..

by MarcB on May 2, 2008 9:12 PM EDT   0 recs

Of course we can hold leads

both of them we have over the course of the full year.

by Trogluddite on May 2, 2008 9:19 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I have the game on mute

is it going to get started again soon?

by DITO on May 2, 2008 9:18 PM EDT   0 recs

some of the lights have come back on

by poorboywilly on May 2, 2008 9:20 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Well...

The announcers said that they might suspend the game, but the on-field announcer lady said that they could potentially have to replay the game at a later date, thereby eliminating our awesome lead :(

.500 or bust...

by phillybucco on May 2, 2008 9:20 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Never mind, looks like we’re getting back on track.

.500 or bust...

by phillybucco on May 2, 2008 9:21 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

oh man

hopefully this doesn’t affect dumatrait too much…just about as long as a half-inning break, right?

by DITO on May 2, 2008 9:21 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

23 minute delay.

.500 or bust...

by phillybucco on May 2, 2008 9:22 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

A little long,

but not too bad

by DITO on May 2, 2008 9:22 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

quick warm up for dumatrait… hes ready to go

by MarcB on May 2, 2008 9:23 PM EDT   0 recs

He might have been ready to go...

but he ain’t pitching like it.

by Thunder on May 2, 2008 9:30 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I wish I could see the pitches instead of listening to it.. ugh

by MarcB on May 2, 2008 9:31 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

He's still throwing hard enough,

ranging from 89-93, but he keeps missing his spots, he’s low a lot.

by DITO on May 2, 2008 9:34 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Somehow Switching over to "Man vs. Wild" during the delay

reminds me of watching the Pirates vs the Yankees.

by JimBibbySweat on May 2, 2008 9:24 PM EDT   0 recs

Two laughers in the same week...

Just knew it was too much to ask for.

by Hitman Easler on May 2, 2008 9:31 PM EDT   0 recs

Half

the lead is gone.

by Thunder on May 2, 2008 9:32 PM EDT   0 recs

We still got this game. Just need to end this inning.

by MarcB on May 2, 2008 9:33 PM EDT   0 recs

Whew… we need to put up about 6 more so I can feel comfortable again.

.500 or bust...

by phillybucco on May 2, 2008 9:34 PM EDT   0 recs

I feel comfortable still. After all we are playing the Nationals.

by MarcB on May 2, 2008 9:35 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

And Nate has his motor running tonight

And Doumit is in and LaRoche is not

I think we’re going to be okay here

by DITO on May 2, 2008 9:36 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

That was a pretty good pitch

It was on the outside corner, but it was a breaking ball lefty to lefty. I don’t know how you don’t swing at that.

by DITO on May 2, 2008 9:35 PM EDT   0 recs

The 4th inning has proved to me

Dumatrait is not starter-material. He has to get outs on the 2nd and 3rd go round through the order and he has failed to do that.

by Bad Andy on May 2, 2008 9:35 PM EDT   0 recs

You are definately right,

but he’s shown enough that he deserves another look or two. I least he isn’t putting a ton of people on base for free, and he has struck out four.

by DITO on May 2, 2008 9:38 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Agreed

But really anything is better than the retired Matt Morris at this point

by Bad Andy on May 2, 2008 9:40 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Bautista is hot tonight!

.500 or bust...

by phillybucco on May 2, 2008 9:41 PM EDT   0 recs

Holy Joey Bats!

2 HRs tonight!

by Bad Andy on May 2, 2008 9:41 PM EDT   0 recs

Oh my!

Hey Jose

by DITO on May 2, 2008 9:41 PM EDT   0 recs

Jose...

wants to keep his job.

by Hitman Easler on May 2, 2008 9:42 PM EDT   0 recs

Okay.

When does he start serving his 25 game suspension? A think a 2 home run game is prima facia evidence of steroid use f/Jose B.

by Trogluddite on May 2, 2008 9:42 PM EDT   0 recs

I don't know who Mike O'Connor is

but he has a pretty nasty little hook

by DITO on May 2, 2008 9:43 PM EDT   0 recs

Looks like Marte is up.

.500 or bust...

by phillybucco on May 2, 2008 9:47 PM EDT   0 recs

I wonder if McClouth leads the league in broken bats. I don’t see nearly as many from anybody else on any team I’ve watched this season.

.500 or bust...

by phillybucco on May 2, 2008 9:57 PM EDT   0 recs

Not sure. For a while there, I tried to ignore his at-bats because they were pretty pathetic.

.500 or bust...

by phillybucco on May 2, 2008 10:01 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

i think the pirates must have a termite problem

by MarcB on May 2, 2008 10:03 PM EDT   0 recs

Grabow in the 7th

Capps in the 8th and 9th for a two-inning save? He hasn’t pitched in a while.

by DITO on May 2, 2008 10:08 PM EDT   0 recs

The announcers were saying earlier that there is a pretty big dead space in the middle of the park where those balls just kinda die out.

.500 or bust...

Adam LaRoche now needs to do something here. Get out of that slump! Today is the day to start.

by MarcB on May 2, 2008 10:19 PM EDT   0 recs

Hey LaRoche?

It’s not April anymore

by Bad Andy on May 2, 2008 10:19 PM EDT   0 recs

Are we surprised

he struck out on 4 pitches?

by Thunder on May 2, 2008 10:20 PM EDT   0 recs

Yes.

I was expecting it in 3.

Chill out X

At least you still lead the NL in RBIs…..someone out there will want you come July.

by Bad Andy on May 2, 2008 10:33 PM EDT   0 recs

Nick Johnson

looks like a firefighter or maybe a security guard.

.500 or bust...

by phillybucco on May 2, 2008 10:43 PM EDT   0 recs

Did that pick look as good as the announcers made it sound on the radio?

by MarcB on May 2, 2008 10:57 PM EDT   0 recs

Yes, it was pretty sweet, just missed the out by a half a step.

.500 or bust...

by phillybucco on May 2, 2008 10:58 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

You know, there wasn’t a whole lot not to like in the game tonight. Good effort all around! Now, we need score a couple of wins back-to-back.
