At the Hardball Times declares Aramis Ramirez (2003) the worst cleanup hitter since 1957. There’s a good Dick Stuart story in the same article.

we at least played well

against one of the better teams in the NL. Here’s hopping we can get a series win against the scuffling Brewers.

UGH!

Bautista batting 2nd…...hurry back Jack Flash

by Bad Andy on May 20, 2008 7:15 PM EDT reply actions

hahahaha

Sanchez after catching Bautista’s ball thought the inning ended which in turn caused the Brew Crew to score a run.

by Bad Andy on May 20, 2008 7:32 PM EDT reply actions

I bet the Pirates can’t wait to send Bixler back to the minors.

by Charlie Wilmoth on May 20, 2008 7:53 PM EDT reply actions

or DFA Rivas

still I think Bix should be sent down

by Bad Andy on May 20, 2008 7:56 PM EDT up reply actions

I’d love to be rid of both of them, myself.

by Charlie Wilmoth on May 20, 2008 7:57 PM EDT up reply actions

I mean, I’m glad he just singled and all. :)

by Charlie Wilmoth on May 20, 2008 7:58 PM EDT up reply actions

still batting a fine .182 though

with 6 errors…...not getting it done…..knew from the beg. he wasn’t ready and it shows

LaRoche

You’re freaking worthless!

by Bad Andy on May 20, 2008 8:20 PM EDT reply actions

Have I missed much?

I see us down 2-0.
Is the offense playing in a way that they could make it up?
Or is it game, set & match?

As long as the Brew Crew bullpen stinks

we still have a chance. Got 4 innings to do it.

by Bad Andy on May 20, 2008 8:47 PM EDT up reply actions

WHY WHY WHY WHY

is Bautista batting 2nd? WHY!

by Bad Andy on May 20, 2008 8:55 PM EDT reply actions

Yeah, I mean what is it about the second position in the lineup that so often makes managers think you can’t put good hitters there?

by Charlie Wilmoth on May 20, 2008 8:57 PM EDT up reply actions

we're making parra work

but can’t quite seem to get any big hits. hopefully we start this inning

McLouth swinging at Ball Four

We just don’t deserve to win tonight

by Bad Andy on May 20, 2008 8:58 PM EDT reply actions

That's alright

hopefully we will see a another 1-4 night with a late-inning homerun from Nate…seems like that happens a lot (it probably happened once or twice and I just remember it well)

by DITO on May 20, 2008 9:02 PM EDT reply actions

before tonight

it was .188 (6-32)...although he did have 11 walks.

by Thunder on May 20, 2008 9:06 PM EDT up reply actions

I agree

he’s hitting .290 with no one on and .210 with runners on. With 2 outs in an inning, he’s hitting a whopping .158. But he does take a lot of walks.

by Thunder on May 20, 2008 9:14 PM EDT up reply actions

I bet

we lose by that one run that Freddy let score. I’ve been watching the Phillies game, too… 0-0 in the top of the 8th… Hamels is fun to watch.

Another case of a starting P staying too long

Maholm gives up homer to Cameron!

We’re done! Home crowd not into this one.

Da**.

Down 4-0 now.

we leave our pitcher in one inning too long.

Argh.

by phillybucco on May 20, 2008 9:10 PM EDT reply actions

johnnycuff posted something

in the Coming Up post about how the cameron signing was a huge mistake.
Well… he’s 3-3 with a BB & a HR (2 RBI, 1 run scored) so far today.

It’s like Soriano in the last series with the Cubs… except he’s not as good.

from being 1 game away from .500 again.

by UtesFan89 on May 20, 2008 9:16 PM EDT up reply actions

It is?

We’ve been getting to that point repeatedly, and then losing.
Maybe they’ll do it differently this time… fall 3 below .500, and then win 2 straight to get back within a game of .500.

A disillusioned Pirates fan in Utah...

by UtesFan89 on May 20, 2008 9:22 PM EDT up reply actions

Yeah

he had a nice inning. Threw some good pitches in there.

How many damn black holes can one team have?

LaRoche? Bautista? Paulino? Bixler? How have we won 21 games?

by Hitman Easler on May 20, 2008 9:23 PM EDT reply actions

Why does Corey Hart

have absolutely NO power this year?

by DITO on May 20, 2008 9:25 PM EDT reply actions

You’re right that he hasn’t been hitting for much power, but he did hit the top of the light standard on top of the green monster in Fenway

by ol Pete on May 20, 2008 9:43 PM EDT up reply actions

It is entirely possible that I don't have a clue what I am talking about,

but it looks to me like Gagne’s hand pauses next to his ear and kind of shows what type of pitch he might be throwing. I don’t think he hides the ball very well at all, and I am sure that hitter can pick it up very early, if not tell when he is going to throw a breaking ball before he even releases it.

by DITO on May 20, 2008 10:05 PM EDT reply actions

2 out, 5 runs down.

Black Hole, Paulino, Bixler, pitchers spot & Freddy all have to score to tie it up.
