Jay Bruce to Make Major League Debut Against Bucs

Well, this is pretty cool:

Tomorrow the Reds are expected to promote from Triple-A Louisville top prospect OF Jay Bruce.

A corresponding roster move will be announced prior to tomorrow's 7:10 p.m. game against the Pirates.

Bruce will wear uniform number 32 and when he plays will be making his Major League debut.

Bruce is probably the best prospect in the minors right now, and he's hitting .364/.393/.630 at Louisville. He'll make the Reds that much harder to beat, but it'll be cool to watch the debut of a player who could blossom into a great one.

Cincy rotation for the series

Cueto, Arroyo and Harang in that order. Ours is Snell, Gorzo and Duke.

Arroyo and Harang will be on 3 days rest.

We sweep the Reds at PNC

Looks like we have a chance to sweep the Reds at their own ballpark. Here’s hopin’

Pretty safe guess

that the Reds roster move will be to DFA Corey Patterson…unless they have a big trade in the works. Their 40 man is full, so someone’s getting dropped from it. Their other two backup outfielders (Freel and Hairston) are also their only backup middle infielders right now.

With 2 starters going on short rest this week…the Reds sure won’t cut back on pitchers…although they could swap pitchers with Louisville. I wouldn’t be surprised if Homer Bailey rides with Bruce from Columbus to Cincy tomorrow. That would put Arroyo and Harang a lot closer to regular rest.

I don't know...

I’ve got a feeling they will DFA Scott Hatteberg rather than Patterson.

You got it right...

Hatteberg is the DFA…per ESPN.com.

I'm still not ready to conceed that

passing over Bruce was a mistake. I’d like to see McCutchen keep his K-rate low this year while improving his OBA. The ball jumps off his bat. The power should come. And, he’s a legitimate CF.

On the other hand, Bruce is a LH powerhitter….

Jay Bruce vs. Andrew McCutchen

McCutchen is going to eventually help the Pirates and be a nice player.

Jay Bruce is going to be an IMPACT player.

I think

McCutchen will also be an impact player. But it would have been nice to have a LH power hitter playing in the OF. Still, McCutchen has already shown more power than Nate did during his minor league days. I’d rather McCutchen develop good habits at the plate than put up big power numbers and K-rates.

Agree

It certainly seems like the safe bet that Bruce will have the better pro career, but in no way is that a certainty.

Well, in terms of debuts

or just a game in general… that was impressive.
3-3. 2 walks. 2 RBI. 2 runs scored. And the win.
Not a bad debut.

The Utah Jazz. The Jazz... duh.
The best NBA team in Utah... no doubts about it!
Playing For Pride. Pirates, Utes, Panthers, and more...
Because, in the end, only one team can "win it all".
