Pirates Mock Draft

I am drafting for the Pirates again this year over at MinorLeagueBall.com and as I did last year,I am open to any thoughts and advice, both now and during the draft on Sunday.

Last year,Vlad was around to help me with the last pick of the draft,so if anyone has thoughts, wants to hang around during the draft with advice, just let me know.

Here is hoping for a better draft than the Littlefield versions!

saved ya time and posted it here too

Count Vertigo:

Alright man, here is the deal. The Pirates have it down to 2 players Beckham or Alvarez. It is word that they are really leaning and wanting Alvarez. He is built for PNC Park. His defense is no where near as bad as people say, and his body style could a be a little like Miguel Cabrera. But if he keeps his hard work going he wont have to move. I have scouted and watched most of these players, read everything that has been written. Alvarez is the best player in this draft. He broke the hamate bone and is still pushing at the end of the year, and he is only going to get stronger as the healing process continues.

I am not sold on Beckham. I dont like projecting power when he doesnt show much of it at the high school level. Yes he will grow and get bigger and stronger but the power just hasnt been on display. I think you need that when your talking about the 1 or 2 picks in the draft.

The Pirates will select Alvarez if he is there. They want to make the big splash to show the fans that they are in this for the best player no matter what the cost. They lost so much with the Moskos selection last year.

As far as your later rounds? Look for them to add a big bat that might slip in the draft. Or a power arm that is a starter.

Brett Wallace, Riccio Torrez, Cody Satterwhite, Tyson Ross, Zach Putnam, Petey Paramore, Michael Palazzone, Jake Odorizzi, Alex Meyer, Tim Melville, Ethan Martin, Brett Marshall, Kyle Long, Brett Lawrie, Tyler Ladendorf, Casey Kelly, D.J. Hicks, Reese Havens, Trey Haley, Anthony Gose, Isaac Galloway, Danny Espinosa, Cutter Dykstra, Allan Dykstra, Ike Davis, Brandon Crawford, Jason Castro.

That is my list to look for in the 2nd round on. Those are all players who would have great value after round 1.

Hope this helped!

Reese Havens

may be worthy of the Bucs second round pick if he is still there

I like Cody Satterwhite

Plays for U of Cincinnati…..OF…..has a sweet righty stroke and the swagger that the Bucs sorely need if and when he makes it to the big leagues.

RE Satterwhite

No he isnt… he is a pitcher for Ole Miss… thats the one i have listed

2 more added to my 2nd round or later list

There is 2 names that if they throw money at would be good 2nd or 3rd round picks…

Robbie Grossman
Destin Hood

Logan Forsythe

3rd round if he is there. Have seen him play several SEC games and he is a baseball player with good skills.

Thanks

and keep your thoughts coming.I like listening to others and that helps to add information to my thoughts.

And what's the name of that guy I picked after you left?

I can’t remember, and I wanted to check up on him.

I need a confidence boost going into this year’s draft, since my shadow picks last year turned out pretty grim.

nice

yea, i get to watch a lot of games for shortseason a ball…. mostly cause the scrappers live only like 15min from me. I am in sharon, so i am an hour from Pitt and Cleveland…

Plus its nice actually watching some good high school baseball from my old HS… they are 19-0 and not one player that looks like they could play D2 baseball, lol

Mahoning Valley

Been there-nice park and good management.
I live in a SAL town and just 25 miles from a Carolina League team,so I see Hickory and Lynchburg and try to see Altoona,Indianapolis and State College once a year, but first time ever tomorrow for AAA

by Count Vertigo on May 28, 2008 12:09 PM EDT reply actions

Hickory

Have you got to see Lincoln pitch this year? Despite the TJ surgery, i hear he is throwing extremely well

by Schnoah on May 28, 2008 12:12 PM EDT reply actions

Not yet

Hickory comes here for a four game set in July.
I have seen all the Lynchburg guys though-Moskos,Watson,Hughes and Crotta.
The guy I really like is a reliever-Eric Krebs.

by Count Vertigo on May 28, 2008 12:32 PM EDT reply actions

Krebs

I heard he was doing well… there is some surprising pitchers especially in the bullpens throughout Pittsburghs organization…. there is even a few kids in the VSL that are pitching really really well!
