let’s hope the offense can score some runs tonight (if they can’t hit Zito, there’s no hope)

I like it

and it is a good day to give Doumit off…Paulino should be able to hit Zito

by DITO on May 7, 2008 7:13 PM EDT up reply actions

You’ve got to sit him sometimes, so I guess it makes sense to sit him against lefties. It’d be wonderful to get him in there at first or something, though.

by Charlie Wilmoth on May 7, 2008 7:17 PM EDT up reply actions

Agreed

but I guess you have to give LaRoche a chance to do it a couple nights in a row

by DITO on May 7, 2008 7:19 PM EDT up reply actions

Zito

is throwing 85mph four seam fastballs and 81-82mph two seam fastballs at the letters…my prediction is this gets ugly fast

by DITO on May 7, 2008 7:14 PM EDT reply actions

Nady

just whiffed on a 84mph fastball down the pipe

by DITO on May 7, 2008 7:21 PM EDT reply actions

He was probably waiting on one of those 81 MPH heaters.

by Charlie Wilmoth on May 7, 2008 7:21 PM EDT up reply actions

I was at last night's game

so all I saw when Burnett was in were some hard-hit balls that weren’t very encouraging. But, FSN’s gun read 92, huh? I’d say that is reason enough to give him a while to see if he can fall into a bullpen role.

by DITO on May 7, 2008 7:28 PM EDT reply actions

Yeah, he threw one 92-MPH fastball that I saw. The couple others where I paid attention to the velocity were around 90.

by Charlie Wilmoth on May 7, 2008 7:30 PM EDT up reply actions

Bocock! You don’t even have to be drinking to find that funny.

by Charlie Wilmoth on May 7, 2008 7:33 PM EDT reply actions

I’d change my name to something funny for the ability to be an MLB starting shortstop, even a catastrophically awful one.

by Charlie Wilmoth on May 7, 2008 7:36 PM EDT up reply actions

good job

dumatrait

Come on

Bixler ripped that ball

Nice inning!

.500 or bust...

by phillybucco on May 7, 2008 7:47 PM EDT reply actions

This is certainly better than the typical Morris outing. Of course, the fact that it’s the Giants probably doesn’t hurt.

by Charlie Wilmoth on May 7, 2008 7:49 PM EDT reply actions

Bay

Just jumped on for a second….was listening to Bob Walk critique Paulino’s at bat when he chased a 2-0 pitch. Walk was right on, talking about how when you are in control you look for something to drive. In hitters counts you have to take advantage and look for your pitch. This is why I was apoplectic when Bay took a 3-1 fastball right down the pipe in the first inning with two runners on. Yea the guy has 26 walks, but is hitting below .200 w/RISP. He needs to drive that pitch. I don’t get it. He pains me. Send him to Seattle quickly please.

by David Todd on May 7, 2008 7:50 PM EDT reply actions

Yeah

I was thinking that, too. That pitch was belt high, right down the middle, mid 80s. What else are you looking for against Zito in a 3-1 count?

by DITO on May 7, 2008 7:52 PM EDT up reply actions

Oh my

that was not a strike.

Did you see Molina’s attempt to frame that? He pulled his glove down over a foot.

by DITO on May 7, 2008 7:56 PM EDT reply actions

His changeup looks good,

but he doesn’t have the fastball to go with it. There is no way he can keep zeros up much longer.

by DITO on May 7, 2008 7:58 PM EDT up reply actions

Hyperbole on my part.....

Focker had 11 k’s coming in and has 5 tonight.

by Hitman Easler on May 7, 2008 7:59 PM EDT up reply actions

Jose got jobbed.

.500 or bust...

by phillybucco on May 7, 2008 7:56 PM EDT reply actions

Even so

Why is Joey Bats batting 2nd?

by Bad Andy on May 7, 2008 7:57 PM EDT up reply actions

That’s a good question.

by Charlie Wilmoth on May 7, 2008 7:59 PM EDT up reply actions

Does it have anything to do with Nate’s implied dissatisfaction with batting 2nd last night? Or maybe they look at this match-up with the Giants as sort of a laboratory series, since it’s one of the few teams that they’ve dominated the last couple of years…

.500 or bust...

by phillybucco on May 7, 2008 8:00 PM EDT up reply actions

Wishful thinking

following a hot week or two

by DITO on May 7, 2008 7:59 PM EDT up reply actions

Don't blame him too much

If Bautista starts to hit like we think he can it would help the lineup out a lot, and I think I would really like this one through five.

by DITO on May 7, 2008 8:04 PM EDT up reply actions

Trivia-gate

is getting out of hand…

.500 or bust...

by phillybucco on May 7, 2008 8:02 PM EDT reply actions

Does anyone know

why the guide says ESPN is airing the Indians Yankees game, but they are just showing ESPN News?

by DITO on May 7, 2008 8:06 PM EDT reply actions

It's on here in Philly

you got blacked out

.500 or bust...

by phillybucco on May 7, 2008 8:06 PM EDT up reply actions

Why?

That doesn’t make any sense to me

by DITO on May 7, 2008 8:08 PM EDT up reply actions

No idea...

Are you on cable or satellite?

.500 or bust...

by phillybucco on May 7, 2008 8:08 PM EDT up reply actions

It’s 2-0 Cleveland..

Thanks

I really wanted to watch this pitching matchup

by DITO on May 7, 2008 8:11 PM EDT up reply actions

Amazing...

I haven’t missed a run yet today.

64 pitching after 5 innings

3rd time around may be treacherous but then again they ARE the Giants.

by Bad Andy on May 7, 2008 8:24 PM EDT up reply actions

watching on gamecast,

so I didn’t see the pitch, but why was Freddy first pitch swinging with Zito already @ 88 pitches?

He's on the Pirates.

It’s natural instinct to swing at the first pitch.

I saw a stat the other day

that showed Freddy is in the top 10 in the league for fewest pitches per plate appearance.

by Thunder on May 7, 2008 8:30 PM EDT up reply actions

that's not how you bat leadoff

probably more like when you bat 2nd in the order.

by Bad Andy on May 7, 2008 8:31 PM EDT up reply actions

Well

he accumulated that stat batting 2nd and 6th, right?

by DITO on May 7, 2008 8:34 PM EDT up reply actions

Yes,

but the stat involved all the players in the league, regardless of where they were in the batting order.

Wow.

when the Pirates wanted to be an aggressive base-running team and it repeatedly ended in tragedy? Those were the days…
