X man

hell of a catch

by DITO on May 7, 2008 7:07 PM EDT   0 recs

starting lineup

from the box score

Freddy
Bautista
Nate
Bay
X-man
LaRoche
Paulino
Bixler
Dumatrait

let’s hope the offense can score some runs tonight (if they can’t hit Zito, there’s no hope)

by humbucker on May 7, 2008 7:09 PM EDT   0 recs

I like it

and it is a good day to give Doumit off…Paulino should be able to hit Zito

by DITO on May 7, 2008 7:13 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

You’ve got to sit him sometimes, so I guess it makes sense to sit him against lefties. It’d be wonderful to get him in there at first or something, though.

by Charlie on May 7, 2008 7:17 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Agreed

but I guess you have to give LaRoche a chance to do it a couple nights in a row

by DITO on May 7, 2008 7:19 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Zito

is throwing 85mph four seam fastballs and 81-82mph two seam fastballs at the letters…my prediction is this gets ugly fast

by DITO on May 7, 2008 7:14 PM EDT   0 recs

Nady

just whiffed on a 84mph fastball down the pipe

by DITO on May 7, 2008 7:21 PM EDT   0 recs

He was probably waiting on one of those 81 MPH heaters.

by Charlie on May 7, 2008 7:21 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Two men on, no outs.

by Charlie on May 7, 2008 7:26 PM EDT   0 recs

I was at last night's game

so all I saw when Burnett was in were some hard-hit balls that weren’t very encouraging. But, FSN’s gun read 92, huh? I’d say that is reason enough to give him a while to see if he can fall into a bullpen role.

by DITO on May 7, 2008 7:28 PM EDT   0 recs

Yeah, he threw one 92-MPH fastball that I saw. The couple others where I paid attention to the velocity were around 90.

by Charlie on May 7, 2008 7:30 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Bocock! You don’t even have to be drinking to find that funny.

by Charlie on May 7, 2008 7:33 PM EDT   0 recs

sucks to be him

You're a Pirates fan?

by thegetupkids on May 7, 2008 7:35 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I’d change my name to something funny for the ability to be an MLB starting shortstop, even a catastrophically awful one.

by Charlie on May 7, 2008 7:36 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

good job

dumatrait

You're a Pirates fan?

by thegetupkids on May 7, 2008 7:34 PM EDT   0 recs

Come on

Bixler ripped that ball

by DITO on May 7, 2008 7:41 PM EDT   0 recs

ugh

You're a Pirates fan?

by thegetupkids on May 7, 2008 7:42 PM EDT   0 recs

Nice inning!

.500 or bust...

by phillybucco on May 7, 2008 7:47 PM EDT   0 recs

This is certainly better than the typical Morris outing. Of course, the fact that it’s the Giants probably doesn’t hurt.

by Charlie on May 7, 2008 7:49 PM EDT   0 recs

Bay

Just jumped on for a second….was listening to Bob Walk critique Paulino’s at bat when he chased a 2-0 pitch. Walk was right on, talking about how when you are in control you look for something to drive. In hitters counts you have to take advantage and look for your pitch. This is why I was apoplectic when Bay took a 3-1 fastball right down the pipe in the first inning with two runners on. Yea the guy has 26 walks, but is hitting below .200 w/RISP. He needs to drive that pitch. I don’t get it. He pains me. Send him to Seattle quickly please.

by dtoddwin on May 7, 2008 7:50 PM EDT   0 recs

Yeah

I was thinking that, too. That pitch was belt high, right down the middle, mid 80s. What else are you looking for against Zito in a 3-1 count?

by DITO on May 7, 2008 7:52 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Oh my

that was not a strike.

Did you see Molina’s attempt to frame that? He pulled his glove down over a foot.

by DITO on May 7, 2008 7:56 PM EDT   0 recs

His changeup looks good,

but he doesn’t have the fastball to go with it. There is no way he can keep zeros up much longer.

by DITO on May 7, 2008 7:58 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Hyperbole on my part.....

Focker had 11 k’s coming in and has 5 tonight.

by Hitman Easler on May 7, 2008 7:59 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Jose got jobbed.

.500 or bust...

by phillybucco on May 7, 2008 7:56 PM EDT   0 recs

Even so

Why is Joey Bats batting 2nd?

by Bad Andy on May 7, 2008 7:57 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

That’s a good question.

by Charlie on May 7, 2008 7:59 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Does it have anything to do with Nate’s implied dissatisfaction with batting 2nd last night? Or maybe they look at this match-up with the Giants as sort of a laboratory series, since it’s one of the few teams that they’ve dominated the last couple of years…

.500 or bust...

by phillybucco on May 7, 2008 8:00 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Wishful thinking

following a hot week or two

by DITO on May 7, 2008 7:59 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Ding ding ding.

by Charlie on May 7, 2008 8:01 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Don't blame him too much

If Bautista starts to hit like we think he can it would help the lineup out a lot, and I think I would really like this one through five.

by DITO on May 7, 2008 8:04 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

McLouth

Not clutch!

by Charlie on May 7, 2008 8:01 PM EDT   0 recs

Trivia-gate

is getting out of hand…

.500 or bust...

by phillybucco on May 7, 2008 8:02 PM EDT   0 recs

Does anyone know

why the guide says ESPN is airing the Indians Yankees game, but they are just showing ESPN News?

by DITO on May 7, 2008 8:06 PM EDT   0 recs

It's on here in Philly

you got blacked out

.500 or bust...

by phillybucco on May 7, 2008 8:06 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Why?

That doesn’t make any sense to me

by DITO on May 7, 2008 8:08 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

No idea...

Are you on cable or satellite?

.500 or bust...

by phillybucco on May 7, 2008 8:08 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Weird...

It’s 2-0 Cleveland..

.500 or bust...

by phillybucco on May 7, 2008 8:10 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Thanks

I really wanted to watch this pitching matchup

by DITO on May 7, 2008 8:11 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Amazing...

I haven’t missed a run yet today.
Even after missing 3.5 innings.

If Nady keeps rakin like this all year

We might end up getting THREE prospects!

by Bad Andy on May 7, 2008 8:16 PM EDT   0 recs

Every crack of his bat

sounds like a cash register :D

87 pitches after 4 for Zito!

I’d say the Bucs will finish him in the fifth.

by Bad Andy on May 7, 2008 8:17 PM EDT   0 recs

Is that good or bad?

No Hennessey to kick around tonight.

by Hitman Easler on May 7, 2008 8:19 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Dumatrait is in cruise control!

.500 or bust...

by phillybucco on May 7, 2008 8:23 PM EDT   0 recs

64 pitching after 5 innings

3rd time around may be treacherous but then again they ARE the Giants.

Dumatrait cruising...

Worlds are colliding.

by Hitman Easler on May 7, 2008 8:23 PM EDT   0 recs

watching on gamecast,

so I didn’t see the pitch, but why was Freddy first pitch swinging with Zito already @ 88 pitches?

When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro. -- HST

by cocktailsfor2 on May 7, 2008 8:26 PM EDT   0 recs

He's on the Pirates.

It’s natural instinct to swing at the first pitch.

I saw a stat the other day

that showed Freddy is in the top 10 in the league for fewest pitches per plate appearance.

by Thunder on May 7, 2008 8:30 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

that's not how you bat leadoff

probably more like when you bat 2nd in the order.

by Bad Andy on May 7, 2008 8:31 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Well

he accumulated that stat batting 2nd and 6th, right?

by DITO on May 7, 2008 8:34 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Yes,

but the stat involved all the players in the league, regardless of where they were in the batting order.

by Thunder on May 7, 2008 8:40 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Wow.

Aruilia just made a great play.

Remember earlier in the season

when the Pirates wanted to be an aggressive base-running team and it repeatedly ended in tragedy? Those were the days…

I hate Paulino!

At least DFA RoPaul and bring up Chavez to back up Doumit

by Bad Andy on May 7, 2008 8:57 PM EDT   0 recs

May as well have let Yates hit

instead of 0 for 3vas.

by Thunder on May 7, 2008 9:08 PM EDT   0 recs

Why in the world

do they pinch-hit with Rivas?
What happened to Mientkiewicz? Or Doumit? Or even Morgan?

is not playing for Indy tonight…for the 2nd night in a row. Injured??

by Thunder on May 7, 2008 9:22 PM EDT   0 recs

I don't see anything

showing him being injured.
So probably not. Unless they’re hiding it…

Damaso K'n the Giants 1-2-3

Think his trade value’s back to where it was at the start of the season?

by Bad Andy on May 7, 2008 9:23 PM EDT   0 recs

Probably better

he has shown he is more than a lefty-lefty specialist

by DITO on May 7, 2008 9:24 PM EDT   0 recs

Nate just keeps on going,<
