Around SBN: 2012 Budweiser Shootout Entry List Released

Bye Bye, Ronny

Ryan Doumit has been activated; Ronny Paulino has been optioned to Class AAA Indianapolis.

"What I can I say?" said Paulino, who hit .310 as a rookie in 2006 but whose defense tailed off last season. "It's an opportunity for me to go there and play every day, work on what they want me to work on and try to come back here as soon as possible."

It's nice to see that Pirates management is backing up their statements on accountability.

History

Whatever happened to that rookie catcher who hit .310? Hopefully, this can be a repeat of Jay Bell being sent down and coming back a new player. At least he said the right things instead of crying about it.

Brian Rogers

Why was he released if he had a 1.29 era at Indy?

by Rambuncle on Jun 6, 2008 9:26 AM EDT reply actions

Since there wasn't any explanation

it’s possible that he may have asked for his release.

Gonnie Paulino!

I do hope he can fix whatever it was that was messing his game up so much. I mean, I don’t hate the guy… he (and LaRoche) just seem to be the physical manifestation of Pirates baseball mediocrity.

.500 or bust...

Chavez

has shown that he can at least be a backup.

by Deaner on Jun 6, 2008 3:03 PM EDT reply actions

it looks like Ronny got the message...

in three games at AAA, he’s hitting .692 (9/13), with 4 2B and 2 HR for an OPS of 2.176.

I haven’t found any defensive stats, though the box scores might list them.
