The one where he was1 strike away then Jay Bell hit a smash off him? Then I beleive Garcia hit a HR in the next at-bat.

The first smart thing I've seen Snell do all season.

Actually admitting that he’d had enough for the game. I doubt they were going to let him go out for another inning anyway, but if you are hurt, you have to say something to stop it from getting worse. No use messing up your elbow or shoulder because your back hurts.

Probably not...

likely to be just a bruise. With as quick as the Pirates have been batting, it just took 2 innings for it to stiffen up.

Man, Detroit losing again...

Will Leyland say fark it and quit again?

by Hitman Easler on Jun 6, 2008 9:05 PM EDT reply actions

Speaking of Detroit

Did anyone else see that we released – not traded, but just released – the right-handed reliever we got from Detroit for Sean Casey? I wouldn’t mind but his ERA was around 2.5 and I’m not sure why we wouldn’t try to get cash, or a PTBNL, or 2 tickets to a Broadway show or something for him.

by Trogluddite on Jun 6, 2008 9:09 PM EDT reply actions

I think Brian Rogers wanted out

He was yanked around Indy and Altoona apparently. He wasn’t even on the 40-man roster

by Bad Andy on Jun 6, 2008 9:11 PM EDT up reply actions

Mayhap, but

a 2.50 or so ERA? Couldn’t we trade him for four or five maple bats to someone? Even if middle relievers are a dime a dozen, there just cannot be that many people doing middle relief well that we couldn’t get something for him. All in all, it seems like a minor mistake by the new headshed.

by Trogluddite on Jun 6, 2008 9:16 PM EDT up reply actions

I'm sure there's more to the story

on Rogers…not that we’ll ever hear it. I only see 2 possibilities. 1) He wanted out because he knew he could go somewhere else and actually have a shot at getting back to the majors. or 2) something happened off the field that forced management’s hand.

by Thunder on Jun 6, 2008 9:14 PM EDT up reply actions

Of course he would,

the only problem is he would swing and miss.

We still got the best of that deal, though. I don’t think what’s his name has made it back from surgery yet. I heard his name mentioned in connection w/Smoltz’s season-ending surgery.

right

He was specifically mentioned as “not quite ready to return” just a few nights ago. At least we have someone to fill a uniform.

The funny thing is that the Braves fans were, as I recall reading at the time, irate at the trade. They thought they had been hornswaggled.

by Trogluddite on Jun 6, 2008 9:21 PM EDT up reply actions

Did anyone really

win that trade?

They got a reliever that’s been injured since, we got a 1st-baseman that couldn’t hit in a T-ball league.
