I'm predicting a 1-0, 15 inning thriller.
Okay… not really.
The Utah Jazz. The Jazz... duh.

Dejan
reports he is back, but JR is sitting him because of “5 days of inactivity”. I’m sorry, but that is just lame. Every team save 8 in the majors just had 4 days of inactivity. Either he is in the process of being moved this weekend, or JR is dumber than I thought.

So apparently the way to respond to the scourge of inactivity is with…. more inactivity?

Makes zero sense. Something must be up.

Or
maybe JR pulled a Tracy, gave X a day for the birth of his child, X took longer, and is being given a timeout.

Whatever the reason, it's stupid.
The team has scored 5 runs in 2 games in Colorado.
We need more offense.
Get X-Man out there.

I can’t really see this being the case as from the beginning it was said that Nady would be back Saturday. I like the trade thing until it is disproven

Monday's starter
pretty much has to be JVB or a new acquisition. Barthmaier is starting for Indy tonight according to their press notes. Taubenheim is still DL, and we know Dumatrait isn’t ready. Gorzo is listed as tomorrow’s starter at Indy…but the starters for the following 4 days for Indy is the same as ours on Monday (TBA).
Bautista would have needed a shovel
for his last 2 swings.
Just concede the run there, Jack?
That was sharply hit, and Hawpe is not a burner. This inning could have ended 1-0 Bucs.
Wouldn't it be safer for everybody
To just forfeit the game instead of pitching Herrera?
Good thing I am going
to work in an hour…I won’t have to watch the carnage as our long reliever gets hammered.
seems like everyone is gone
especially with this blood bath…..Joe Dirt is on comedy Central….so i am out as well
We're speechless
It’s hard to think of something new to say about something we’ve been watching for the past 15+ years.
I would have considered leaving him in if I were JR
He was throwing strikes; let him take some more licks out there and try to get through the fourth. That would save the pen a couple of innings and almost certainly have little affect on the outcome of the game.
I guess it is time
to start reminiscing about Matt Morris starts. At least he used to last into the 4th before giving up his 7 runs.
Painful
This game seems especially painful and for the first time in a long time I’ve switched off the game. I’ll check back later.
I feel bad for Herrera, really out of his element.

But it’s Duke vs. Cook. If we can’t hit the dregs they have run out there so far this series, no way we beat Cook.

Let Jim Beam start
he is shutting them down..lol
I can hardly watch this anymore. I just want something to cheer about
Seriously
Why NOT start Beam every fifth day and limit him to three innings, so he can still go an inning or two in between. Then bring in, like, Grabow to pitch three innings, and then let the game situation dictate who gets the final three and in what combination.
Didn’t Leyland try something like that for a couple days once?
Anyway, as a strategy it can’t be any dumber than batting your pitcher eighth. Right now we’re just forfeiting every fifth game. (Every first, second and third game, too, but you get my drift).

Yankees interested in Bay/Nady
Pittsburgh is asking more for Bay than Nady; minor-league outfielders Austin Jackson and Jose Tabata and pitchers such as Ian Kennedy are names that could be discussed.
Do they seriously expect a deal like that to go down?

I`ll sit here and talk to myself
for a while.
I just finished reading Dejan`s blog, and I took the time to read through WTM`s-especially about his mid-season report card for “prospects” in the Pirates` system.
Not that the following represents anything that some here-including myself-haven`t thrown about before, but just to reiterate some points, I really don`t see how anyone can stay up on things related to the PBC and not come to one specific conclusion:
If GM Huntington doesn`t make the right moves with the few bargaining chips we have at the MLB level now, then we could be looking at some scary teams from 2010.
We have almost no talent whatsoever in the minors. Our minor league system flat-out sucks. Other than some legitimate hope for future success from Cutch(let`s Smizik his name for simplicity), Lincoln, and one or two others, there is virtually nothing in the system. It sucks. And we know that some of the most important pieces we have in the majors right now will almost certainly be gone by Opening Day 2010.
Huntington knows he MUST make moves, but if they don`t pan out, we could be looking to celebrate the 25th anniversary of our 100-loss seasons of the mid-80s with some new ones a couple of years from now.
Additionally, if the newbies drafted and signed this year-which hopefully will include Alvarez, Scheppers and one or two other late gambles soon-don`t give us a helluva productive crop over the next few years, if Huntington doesn`t draft real well next year and on, if the “overseas market” doesn`t become productive for us in the near future…man, oh, man, could this get really scary from 2010.
I`m afraid the ghost of Dave Littlefield will continue to haunt us for at least a few more years. And I mean I`m really afraid….
I`m afraid we missed out on our Barry Bonds by not drafting Matt Wieters. Hopefully Pedro Alvarez will be at least as good as Jeff King. It would be a start.
While he is in the process of establishing himself in his relationships with other MLB GMs, let`s hope that Huntington is able to pull off some great deals very soon. That`s all we can do for now.
I had asked Pirate fans this earlier this season but...
as it looks like another sub .500 season for the Bucs, I ask this question again…
How do you do it?
I pose the whole question on my blog
