Best Pirates History?
Hi!
I want to learn more about the Pirates and their history and figured who better to ask than the fans from Pittsburgh. So what are the best histories of this team? I'm looking for something that goes from their days in the American Association up thru to the present times in the National League.
Thank you for any recommendations you may have and please know I deeply appreciate you taking the time to help me. :)

Best moment in Pirates history
Probably Mazeroski’s walkoff homer to win game 7 of the 1960 world series. The Pirates were also pretty tough during the 70s. Unfortunately, I was born in 82 so it’s been kind of a drag during my life. Oh well, at least we have a KICK A$$ blog! I mean that last comment sincerely, by the way, I have learned a LOT about baseball on this website. Now if someone could just fix my throwing mechanics . . .
Back to your orignal question: I know the Pirates won the WS in 1979, 1971, 1960 and I think 1925. There is one more in there that I can’t remember off the top of my head.
Some of our all-time greats are:
Honus Wagner
Roberto Clemente
Willie Stargell
Dave Parker
Lloyd and Paul Waner
Pie Traynor
Ralph Kiner
oh, and Barry Bonds ;)
Hope this is helpful.

thanks! Great info! I appreciate it.
The Pirates have been around a long time and they have a lot of great years and championships. Any good books you would recommend on their history? Thank you so much for all your time! :)
I was thinking of making a comeback until I pulled a muscle -- vacuuming.

Website...
Oh, and here is a list of Pirate-related books, though I must sadly admit that I’ve never read any of them. I guess I have something for next summer now… :)
The Utah Jazz. The Jazz... duh.
The best NBA team in Utah... no doubts about it!
Playing For Pride. Pirates, Utes, Panthers, and more...
Because, in the end, only one team can "win it all".

If you want to read old-timey stuff...
...Paperofrecord.com has a nearly complete run of The Sporting News avialable online, for free (with registration). Also good: “Deadball Stars of the National League”.
I don’t generally read team-specific histories, so I can’t give you any recommendations there, sorry.
