WPGB’s Rocco DeMaro tells Rotoworld that a deal involving Xavier Nady is imminent.
The Rays, Yankees, Mets and Braves were among the team’s interested in Nady, with Tampa Bay supposedly the strongest suitor. For what it’s worth, Rays shortstop prospect Reid Brignac is not starting for Triple-A Durham tonight. He’s someone the Pirates would likely ask for in a Nady deal.

per rotoworld
The Pirates will get Jose Tabata, Ross Ohlendorf and two other prospects from the Yankees for Xavier Nady and Damaso Marte, SI.com’s Jon Heyman reports.
Pittsburgh came down off its initial price tag an awful long way then. Tabata still has very exciting potential and is incredibly young, but his wrist problem are scary and he’s looking like a headcase. Ohlendorf has never been a good bet to develop into anything more than a sixth- and seventh-inning guy. Pitcher Phil Coke is also believed to be in the deal, and he’s a true long shot to help.

that article about the price tags the Pirates were putting on the players was totally bunk. No reason to drop your price when it is still several days from deadline. Sure, do that on the 30th if need be, but not now. This is all assuming the accuracy of the trade reports.

Not quite
the source confirms Ohlendorf, and says the other 3 are EXPECTED to be Tabata, Coke and Kontos. The fact that Coke was removed from his start seems to verify that he’s in it. And the roster for Trenton on milb.com has Tabata on the DL. that is probably the holdup on an announcement. The peripheral numbers on the 3 pitchers look pretty decent…but haven’t done enough research to see what their upside is.

Tabata
Yankee Pinstripe blog states that, after checking out all the scouting reports (which it somewhat questions):
“The consensus is that Jose Tabata has a big league bat capable of Manny Ramirez type numbers.”
Anyone know what’s wrong with his wrist? Apparently been giving him trouble all year..
P.S. Not too worried that 19 y.o. kid who’s been playing professional BB since 17 is a bit of a head case. He’s still a teenager.

Power comes later
Though Manny was a stud in the minors. Back to Yankee Pinstripe blog, that states:
“Tabata does however have two very good skills that he shares with Manny Ramirez: near inhuman plate discipline for an 18 year old and a tremendous ability to get base hits. He will hit a ton of doubles and get his share of extra base hits. Scouts rave about his swing and his ability to keep his hands in. He’ll be a batting title contender if everything turns out right..”

by WstCstBucco on Jul 25, 2008 8:46 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Tabata
Has the potential to be a LOT better than Xavier “Mirage” Nady. But he’s also young enough to completely implode and is far from a sure thing.
Ohlendorf/Kontos will probably be reasonable back-of-the-rotation starters, which is adequate replacement for Marte straight-up, but doesn’t account for the draft picks we’re losing.
Coke is organizational filler.

I would say alright
He’s 19 and in AA so he has plenty of time to grow and appears to hit well, and as Matskralc is just posting at the same time I was about to say….doesn’t anyone remember who Nady usually is? He is one fly ball away from a 30-day hamstring tweak, and definitely a fast starter to every season. I don’t know, maybe everyone is expecting way to much out of the bubble he has created.

I will also be interested to see
who the Yankees make disappear from their 40 man roster, as Ohlendorf was the only one in the trade on it. They’ve got SIX guys on the 60 day DL. They’d have to move Wang or Posada to the 60 day list, or DFA someone. Not out of the question there would be a waiver wire possibility that might help.

I guess we'll have to trust
that NH took the best possible deal by dealing both X-Man & Marte together instead of dealing them in separate deals, and that this was the best offer for the 2.

I would have bet the house Jack was first pitch swinging. My television is lucky he merely fouled it back.

So instead he swings at a pitch at his **ing eyes. God I hate him.

argh
I don’t know how accurate gameday is but all three of those were terrible pitches to swing at

that helped put the kiebash, or however you spell it, on the LA trade? Or perhaps still negotiating…

Hopefully
Colletti went to the bathroom when he was at the plate, and came back to see that nice defensive play.

Time to trade Jack
before he lowers his value even more.
And if it means we have Bixler or Rivas or CGz playing short… so be it.

yet another
jewel by Grabow. A few years ago, I didn’t like this guy too much (mostly because of MVP Baseball 2005….I think he had one pitch in that game), but last couple years I’ve loved him.

Tabata, while only 20, has not hit for power and was a discipline problem this season. Ohlendorf is a No. 5 starter type or a set-up man. Coke has pitched well the last two seasons but you have to give up something to get something.
Neither Coke or Kontos were among the team’s A-list prospects, although Coke was moving up fast.

Only 19
He’s a 19 y.o. that’s been a sports professional in a foreign country since he was 16, and been called the next Manny Ramirez, and he has had “discipline problems.”
What a shocker.
He’s just a child!!

yes
I believe once the player starts the game, he must get a hit to continue a streak. If he subs in then no.
