I wouldn't mind getting Hermida...
....however I think if the Pirates send Bay to the BoSox they should look at getting some of their young pitching as well. You have to think Manny is going to bring more than just Hermida to Boston so maybe in turn more would come to Pittsburgh in this as well.

Details of the potential Manny deal
Officials from teams around the sport are now beginning to hear details about the structure of the Manny Ramirez deal. According to one of them, the three players the Red Sox are seeking from the Marlins for Ramirez are Jeremy Hermida, pitcher Ryan Tucker and big-time outfield prospect Mike Stanton. However, the two sides also have discussed substituting Josh Willingham for Hermida.

Duke Bunting
Makes no sense with one out and a pitcher that can handle the bat a little like Duke can.
If Wilson had been batting eighth, would Russell have had him bunt, notwithstanding the fact that Duke would have been the next hitter. Of course not.
The pitcher batting eighth is a gimmick to make the manager look like he is a “thinker”. Nothing more. You’ll really have to go deep into Bill James’ bible to prove to me that it makes any difference.
right...
but think of it this way too…wilson would have grounded into a DP if he was batting 8th. which would have duke leading off in the 5th

Are you talking about Duke or Iannetta?
Drayton McLane in Houston
When you have as much money as McLane has, you have fun and do whatever you want. The Astros are a toy for him and he seems to be having fun even if he has no idea what he is doing. (You have seen the McLane Distribution semis on the road? They have been the major distributor to Walmart for many years, and McLane sold the company to Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway a couple of years ago.)
So that explains LaTroy Hawkins!

I’m hearing that a multi-team deal involving Jason Bay and the Florida Marlins is in the "final stages." This could involve the previously in-place dealings involving Manny Ramirez as reported by our own John Perrotto. Joe Frisaro of MLB.com thinks that Bay could end up in Boston, Jeremy Hermida in Pittsburgh, and prospects flying every which way. My sources agree, though I will update as details become clearer.

i honestly
would not mind having hermida…just, we don’t really need any more outfielders
by northsidenotch on Jul 30, 2008 8:49 PM EDT up reply actions
Really though?
Why would we want Hermida? I understand that he’s young, but his ceiling seems to be around .375/.475, which is just a tad above league average…
he
still has so much upside. he could easily develop into a 30 HR guy
by northsidenotch on Jul 30, 2008 8:52 PM EDT up reply actions
hmm
I guess that it’s possible, but I don’t think it’s particularly likely. His career minor league slugging percentage was .436. He did have really top-notch plate discipline, but even that’s eroded quite a bit in the majors. In 2007 he showed quite a bit of power but it appears to have been a blip…
his 162 game average...
.270 with 20 HR…and he’s only 24
by northsidenotch on Jul 30, 2008 8:56 PM EDT up reply actions
Is there any rule against flipping him to another team for more prospects
as soon as the trade is made?
.500 or bust...
Hmm
just a thought… I honestly didn’t know either way. We do have a heckuva lot of outfielders
.500 or bust...
Yes, but....
...Hermida is major league ready and allows you to have Hermida, McLouth and Pearce open next season with McCutchen at AAA and Tabata at AA. Once McCutchen is truly ready, if Pearce is performing then you look to deal LaRoche. That being said, Hermida is a nice starting point for Bay, but a solid picthing prospect or two (even if we have to include Grabow) would make it much sweeter.
Ugh
I hate the Red Sox so damn much… I don’t wanna see Bay in one of their lame unis :(

It's a 2-run game
That’s what you do, even if it’s your best hitter up there. And Rivas was 3-3 yesterday…
When you need two runs
The LAST thing you do is give away outs.
As if I could possibly dislike Russell any more
I feel like he’s challenging me.

I thought maybe
they were trying to surprise the Rockies again like last night with a bunt base hit
.500 or bust...
But I didn't see how the infield was playing...
I’m fluctuating between this game and the Phils rout of the Nats
.500 or bust...
They were playing straight up
But it didn’t look like he was trying to surprise anyone. It was just a straight up sac.
In any case Rivas grounds out and Doumit pops up to end the inning.
Really?
I’d still vote for benching McLouth in favor of Nyjer Morgan last September.

from dejan's blog:
8:52 p.m.: I am aware of the three-team scenario that has been floated in some circles - some more definitively than others - that would get Bay involved in a three-way trade between Boston and Florida that would send Bay to the Red Sox, Manny Ramirez to the Marlins and Jeremy Hermida to the Pirates. But I just spoke with a source in Miami who threw water over the whole thing, even the more commonly reported Ramirez-Florida straight-up suggestions. Waiting for independent confirmation either way.

Preliminary indications are that the Pirates would receive four or more prospects, along with, possibly, Florida outfielder Jeremy Hermida. It is expected, though, that Hermida would not be the centerpiece. That would have to be two elite prospects.Earlier in the day, talks about Bay cooled between the Pirates and Tampa Bay, as the Rays steadfastly declined to include any of their top three pitching prospects.

The Commissioner’s Office has been informed of a deal involving the Pirates, Red Sox, and Marlins. The Commissioner has to sign off on any deal involving cash considerations of more than a million dollars…
...
Marlins get Manny Ramirez, one prospect (BOS), and cash (likely Ramirez’s remaining salary)
Pirates get Jeremy Hermida and three prospects (two FLO, one BOS)
Red Sox get Jason Bay and John Grabow
...
There is still potential for this to fall apart over the prospects, though things appear closer now than ever before.
