Astros vs. Pirates, 7 July 2008
Houston @ Pittsburgh
Runelvys Hernandez vs. Phil Dumatrait, 7:05.
As a Pirates fan, I'd like to extend a warm "thank you" to the Astros for starting Runelvys Hernandez in this game. Hernandez, you'll recall, posted an 8.47 ERA in four starts for the Indianapolis Indians last year. The Bucs are coming off a very tough series against the Brewers that dropped them to last place, and the indifference with which the Astros are treating this game--and the possibility that they themselves might wind up in last place if they lose--is simply heartwarming.

I hope Hernandez does not pound on Wade before he gives up a few runs
Pirates could use the win.

Will Dumatrait make it 3 innings?

I don't know...
but I think Dumatrait borrowed the rocket launcher that Duke used in the first inning yesterday.

Why are Dumatriat and Snell back?
Why not wait till after the All-Star break to bring them back? We’d only have to fill in three games (Monday, Tuesday, Sunday) with our AA/AAA guys (Taubenheim, Herrera, Barthmeier) because of the day off Wednesday. Sunday you can empty the bullpen, too.
Dumatriat and Snell could’ve returned on 7/19 and 7/21, giving them 12 extra days of rest each.
by gregg on Jul 7, 2008 8:45 PM EDT 0 recs
Herrera and Barthmaier
both are pitching tonight. It’s possible we could see Taubenheim as a starter Wednesday or Thursday, with JVB starting the other game. And then Maholm…Duke and the staff (probably Dumatrait) into the break.

For anything positive

Everyone gets hit hard sometimes
Good pitcher’s bad games tend to look a little more like this, though, rather than 2.2 IP, 8 ER, 4 BB, 1 K

Your criticism of Lincoln
is off base from what I`ve been reading. He is throwing with good velocity and showing excellent command. This is about as much as can be expected coming off the surgery/lay off that he had.
We need to get him through the year without any other medical problems, build up arm strength, and hope that he`ll be on the fast track to Pittsburgh a year from now.

who started Runelvys Hernandez. Hopefully they`ll dig up John Wasdin for tomorrow.
