I heard down here in TX

on the radio the rangers were saying that they were looking to trade in the off season for Zach Duke. The only thing they mentioned on offering was Marlon Byrd and maybe if others were involved German Duran.

Being from Texas I have seen these guys play a lot and Duran a lot in AA. all I can say is I hope they don’t try and Get Byrd, though he might be swinging a bat now he is just a horrible player that makes some of the dumbest moves ever. He is renowned for making plays that you would yell at a little league player for making. Poor defensive decisions and many many bad ones on the base pads. In TX we wonder why anyone would pay him money to play.

Duran however is a good strong bat and one of the best defensive 2B I have seen play in the Texas League. Though right now the rangers have been forcing him to Play 3B because of Kinsler hold that spot down.

Just wanted to know if this was just Stupid Ranger talk or if you all have heard some validity to it

the Rangers might be able to get Duke for free, if they're patient.

if he keeps pitching BP to NL hitters, the Pirates might DFA or non-tender Duke….

I can't imagine any team

wanting Zach Duke. His opponents BA would be over .400 in the AL.

by Hitman Easler on Aug 19, 2008 7:07 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Not heard anything

I’ve never heard anything about that. Don’t know how Byrd would fit in up here with the abundance of outfielders.

Not sure why they would want Duke in the first place.

I made most of my life decisions at a Foghat concert... I stand by them.

by Chester J Lampwick on Aug 19, 2008 7:07 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

If we trade him

we should trade him to an NL Central team. That way we get to hit off him.

by northsidenotch on Aug 19, 2008 7:09 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I agree ... and we should extend his contract ...

contingent upon him staying in the NL central

by Pirate in Ole VA on Aug 19, 2008 8:13 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

If the return is significant...

Duke will be a Ranger for 2008. I don’t believe there is any player on the PBC’s 25 man roster that is ‘untouchable’. That being said, there hasn’t been any word in regards to what you have heard in this part of the internet.

by ElliottBayBucco on Aug 19, 2008 7:12 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I know Duke isn't much

but have you seen the Ranger’s Staff

The Rangers Radio guys like to talk a lot. You would think they are in the World series the way they talk down here……..and Astros fans OMG have to be the dumbest people on earth, so unrealistic….they have signs here counting the magic number to get the Wild Card.. Its sad is what it is

Duke

I too am from the Dallas area and I’v never actually heard any of this talk, although I certainly believe you. I guess Duke sort of gets groundballs, so if i squint alot I can almost see why the Rangers would want to take a flier on him, but not if they have to give something up, least of all an actual prospect such as Duran.

Where are you from exactly? I live in the DFW area, Coppell actually, although I’m away for school now.

by baseballgg24 on Aug 19, 2008 7:19 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I am From the San Antonio area(Bandera)

but I am at school right now in Corpus Christi.

The Rangers are known for trading prospects away for nothing….like Danks for McCarthey(as he even thrown a pitch for Texas in the last two years they have had him?)

Also

NY-Penn League All-Star game is tonight. Chase D’Arnaud and Jeremy Farrell are on the NL team. However, neither are starting.

Continuing a Pirates tradition in All-Star games in 2008...

let’s up they make the most of the at-bats they get tonight. Good luck, D’Arnaud & Farrell!

That lineup....

well, you will be able to knock me over with a feather if we win this game tonight. (Crap lineup + Snell=auto loss)

by Hitman Easler on Aug 19, 2008 7:32 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

This is one of those nights where

the Pirates will either get shutout, or score about a dozen runs. Notice that I didn’t say anything about how many runs we will give up.

by Thunder on Aug 19, 2008 7:40 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I would bet on the former...

Sad thing is, I used to look forward to Snell starts……his rapid descent from promising young gun to possible middle relief has been both stunning and depressing.

by .500 Please on Aug 19, 2008 8:24 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Not relevant today

but there was something in the PG or on Dejan’s that he was going to get a lot less playing time in September (rest reasons, I guess).

Does that mean a lot more of Morgan?

The Utah Jazz. The Jazz... duh.
The best NBA team in Utah... no doubts about it!
Playing For Pride. Pirates, Utes, Panthers, and more...
Because, in the end, only one team can "win it all".

Doumit = beast

1-0 Bucs as Looper is doing his best Snell impression.

No shutout Thunder

may your dozen runs prediction come true.

by Hitman Easler on Aug 19, 2008 8:26 PM EDT   0 recs

Looper has usually

been good against us, no?

Even LaRoche’s flyout was deep (per Gameday)

Terrible!

Trade him now! Awful deal!

by Raise the Jolly Roger on Aug 19, 2008 8:34 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Well

He has had only 44 AB…that’s pretty limited to look at stats, but in those ABs he has .372 SLG and .672 OPS, only marginally worse than Bautista’s .404/.729. Give him time. Better he play like this now then next year when the team might actually be a little more decent.

by poorboywilly on Aug 19, 2008 8:37 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

and that's with Bautista's stats

having 60 more points of BA in them.

by poorboywilly on Aug 19, 2008 8:39 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Hahahaha come on, 13 games.

You’re basing your opinion of him on 13 games! 43 at bats! 195 TOTAL major league at bats!

Get a clue or GTFO

by camoseven on Aug 19, 2008 8:36 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Not even close to being ready to give up on him...

just saying, he has been less than impressive so far.

Get out the pins and needles!

Rolaids, liquor … Snell pitching.

by Pirate in Ole VA on Aug 19, 2008 8:30 PM EDT   0 recs

Snell defeats Pujols!

This is the first time in years, no?

by shayborg on Aug 19, 2008 8:36 PM EDT   0 recs

Snell has faced Pujols more than any other batter, 33 PA

Career: .444/.545/.963
2008: .273/.385/.273

So he’s been relatively good against him this year (in 13 PA). Also note that these stats don’t include tonight.

by camoseven on Aug 19, 2008 8:41 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

OMG

no runs in first inning…is that two games in a row? Three even?

by poorboywilly on Aug 19, 2008 8:39 PM EDT   0 recs

Jose Tabata

PIcked up Looper in fantasy because I really need wins. I figured it was an automatic one against Snell. Well, I always put the Pirates ahead of my fantasy team, so I’m happy. But I’m pretty shocked at the Snell performance.
