I don't expect a LaRoche roster move
until Friday, if one is needed. Usual suspects are playing for Indy tonight. I can’t see the Pirates trying to fly someone from Buffalo to Phoenix for a noon local start tomorrow. Better just to meet the team in Philly on Friday.

Just saw an update from DK's blog
LaRoche out 2-3 days at least…should start swinging on Friday. Big brother’s swinging session pushed from tomorrow to Friday. Davis going in Herrera’s start…I guess he’s the starter Saturday. Yates not available tonight, flying back to Pittsburgh on a family related matter.

For those not looking at the link round up
at Bradenton today…
Capps 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K. Runner reached on error, stole second, advanced to 3rd on a PB by…..you got it…Joggin Ronny Paulino.
Paulino finally caught 9 innings today and went 1 for 4.
Jose Tabata played RF, 2 HR in 4 AB with 5 RBI. Guess the wrist is OK.
by Thunder on Aug 5, 2008 7:54 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Good news on Tabata
But he is a AA player rehabbing in the Rookie League. I’m happier that this means his hamstring isn’t as serious as some were saying last week.
I don’t know what Paulino’s excuse is, though. (But I haven’t known for 1 1/2 years what his excuse is.)
P.S. Anyone notice that Evan Meek is the player of the month for July at Indianapolis? He posted an 0.51 ERA in 17.2 IP, 16K and 1BB.
by WstCstBucco on Aug 5, 2008 8:57 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Paulino's excuse
“Hey, I play on a crap team, so there’s no reason I should have to hustle, or do anything other than the minimum, because I’m not really good enough to get traded to a good team where I might be anything other than a backup.”
Wrong!

The saddest play in penny ante 5 card draw poker . . .
. . . is to keep one card and draw 4 new ones.
That’s how I feel about the PBC starting rotation.
Keep Maholm, and discard Duke, Snell, Herrera & JVB. (Duke & Snell can stay in the bullpen.)
Draw Karsten, Davis, Ohlendorf and McCutchen.
And after Sept. 1, replace one of the new starting 5 with Gorzo. (He went 6 IP for 0 ER, 0 BB and 4K last night, but JVB picked up the BS/L.)
So far, 2 down, 2 to go.

Morris pitched five innings and left the game. His successor immediately gave up 3 runs. The Crawdads have managed a run, but not a hit..

I guess that where I feel Grace is refreshing
is that listening to other teams announcers during our games…is that he is one of the few…if not the only opposing announcer that seems to have some sort of clue what is going on with the Pirates over the past 15 years. Granted…he didn’t like the trades this year…but he likely hasn’t looked at the ENTIRE system close enough to see the trades were needed.

Pretty well
is understating things. I think it’s his best start in a long time. The HR by Young was a great piece of hitting…considering the location of the pitch. It definitely wasn’t a mistake by Duke. The only mistake he’s made was hanging the changeup to Drew right before Young’s home run. No walks and only 3 hits.
