This is the most pathetic Pirates lineup I've ever seen

From Dejan:

Pirates’ lineup: 1. Chris Gomez 3B. 2. Mientkiewicz. 3. Freddy Sanchez 2B. 4. Jason Michaels CF. 5. Brandon Moss LF. 6. Steve Pearce RF. 7. Raul Chavez C. 8. Jack Wilson SS. 9. Karstens.

Not that this is important but...

The betting line for this game was ridiculous last night. I would imagine it’s even worse with the sad lineup that’s being trotted out there today. I can’t check betting lines from work, but it would be interesting to see.

I guess we'll still have a chance to win if

Krastens and the pen do as well as the last time he pitched though.

by WestCoastBuc on Aug 6, 2008 3:06 PM EDT reply actions

That lineup is embarassing, seriously.

Why schedule a day off for several players on the same day? Wouldn’t it make more sense to stagger than so as not to appear like a minor league team. Why would anyone pay to see this team play unless you are a D-Back fan?

Yeah...

I thought this game wasn’t on TV, but I guess it is now. I was excited to see Karstens pitch and for Minky/Randy part two….but this lineup takes alot of the fun out of it

Spot on comment

The difference in the level of preparation for the ML between Pearce (and everyone else from Indianapolis) and the Yankee, Red Sox and Dodger newbies is staggering.

Hopefully management will spend this winter clearing out the old guard in minor league coaches. The teams minor league coaching is appalling.

I worry about Tabata growing up in this organization. He needs a mentor. Does anyone know if Woody Huyke would be willing to come back and mentor the kid in Altoona or Indianapolis next year?

from

DK’s blog

One thing about Karstens - and that one thing would be higher than Arizona’s hit total through four innings - that the Pirates probably will like even when he does not pitch well: This kid appears to have no fear. He is throwing all four pitches for strikes, and it appears he could not care less that they are hit hard or not. Just gets outs. A very jarring sight after much of the other pitching all of us have watched this summer.

San Diego

As an aside…I got a plane ticket to SD today for $240 the last weekend of the season, when the Bucs will be in town. Anyone know where I should stay?

by hisjazziness on Aug 6, 2008 5:12 PM EDT reply actions

Did you write to me yesterday? I live in SD but I have no idea. I (obviously) don’t stay in hotels there are rarely come downtown unless it’s to see a ballgame. Too touristy. You’ll probably have the easiest time if you stay near a trolley route, so you don’t have to park downtown… although I’m guessing that weekend won’t be a huge problem either way. There are a number of hotels near the stadium because the convention center is also there.

by Charlie Wilmoth on Aug 6, 2008 5:20 PM EDT up reply actions

Yeah, it was today

That helps a ton! I didn’t know where the stadium was in comparison with anything in the city, so it’s good to know there are a lot of hotels by the park.

by hisjazziness on Aug 6, 2008 5:23 PM EDT up reply actions

SD

I live in San Diego, too. The Marriott right next to the stadium is one of the nicest I’ve stayed in and I travel frequently. They have a very cool rooftop bar (“Altitudes”) that looks into the stadium, more or less. Also has a view of the Coronado bridge.

I’m not sure what the parking situation is there, or how much it is per night…but it’s a perfect location.

Anything that is in Old Town. If money is no object, the brand new Hard Rock Hotel right x-cross the street from the balpark is your best bet IMHO.

Mr. Wonderful

Hoping he can pitch this week. He can take Snell’s place so far as I care.

Not if

you get Mean Gene Okerlund to interview him.

And a complete reversal from his

2 K, 4 (or 5, I don’t remember) BB performance in his first Bucco start.

The Utah Jazz. The Jazz... duh.
The best NBA team in Utah... no doubts about it!
Playing For Pride. Pirates, Utes, Panthers, and more...
Because, in the end, only one team can "win it all".

23 batters retired in a row

and a CG and a SO and facing only 29 batters is a damn fine pitching performance in anyone’s book.

Well...

Tabata has 2 homers 5 RBIs, Ohlendorf is doin well in AAA, and now this. deal looks good so far

Tabata

is currently on a rehabilitation assignment at Rookie League Bradenton for his hamstring injury. Presumably he’ll go to Altoon in a week or so.

I think

Capps and Paulino are there too. Tabata is making Paulino look very bad (not that that’s hard or anything).

Capps is there

Appear to pitch a perfect inning with a K yesterday. Paulino wasn’t in yesterday’s boxscore.

Actually

Paulino DID play yesterday at Bradenton. Went 1-4 with a PB and a stolen base against while Capps was pitching. One runner reached on an error.

And Bryan Morris first start

was pretty good. Anyone got a line on McCuthen?

by WstCstBucco on Aug 6, 2008 6:01 PM EDT reply actions

Very Cool

He really needs to work on his interview skills though, very boring but I’m still glad to have him.

I made most of my life decisions at a Foghat concert... I stand by them.
