Nyjer Morgan playing left again.

Don't get us started, Charlie!

You know how this always turns out!

by matskralc on Sep 10, 2008 8:26 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

You must really love Pearce.

Why do you keep implying that JR is benching Hank Aaron?

by shayborg on Sep 10, 2008 8:31 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Steve Pearce

Announcer’s voice: “Steve Pearce. You’ve just hit your first ML home run. What are you going to do?”

Pearce: “I’m going to go to Di . .. that pine bench tonight, sit down and watch Nyjer Morgan run the PBC out of a big inning or 2.”

by WstCstBucco on Sep 10, 2008 8:20 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

2009 draft position

We’re up to #4 from #7 a few weeks ago. We’re 4.5 games ahead of (behind?) the Padres and Nats who are tied for the top spot right now and 3.5 ahead of the Mariners. We’re 1.5 games behind the Royals and have opened a pretty decent gap on everyone else.

by shayborg on Sep 10, 2008 8:23 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Nyjer in left again...

Obviously JR does not want to win .

by Hitman Easler on Sep 10, 2008 8:27 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Nyjer is hitting .297 since his recall

Maybe they’ve been fooled by small sample size? It wouldn’t be the first time.

by shayborg on Sep 10, 2008 8:28 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

He has done fine since the recall,,,

Just don’t tell the “Pearce must play” crowd. that.

by Hitman Easler on Sep 10, 2008 8:31 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Um, I think you kind of missed my point...

A .297 average in a few dozen ABs is much less meaningful than a career of endless failure.

by shayborg on Sep 10, 2008 8:35 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

No, I got it

Quote me Pearce’s endless stream of success in the bigs now.

by Hitman Easler on Sep 10, 2008 8:37 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yes, it is apparently that complicated. Just stop banging your head off this wall now. For your own good.

by matskralc on Sep 10, 2008 8:39 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Again...

quote me Pearce’s success in majors. I wait patiently for the answer.

by Hitman Easler on Sep 10, 2008 8:40 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

See also

Tike Redman…Chris Duffy…anyone named Brown.

by Thunder on Sep 10, 2008 8:53 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

It certainly

seems that Morgan and Pearce may be platooning…with Pearce getting the short half of the shift. Generally more right handed starting pitchers than left handers…so Pearce isn’t playing as much.

by Thunder on Sep 10, 2008 8:49 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Both of them

are going to Mexico this winter…..link

It also says Pearce will play 1st there…and there’s this:

“In Nyjer’s case, it’s to try and get ready for next year,” Stark said. “In Steve’s case, it’s trying to improve the consistency of his at-bats.”

by Raise the Jolly Roger on Sep 10, 2008 8:52 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I'm curious as to what

either of them are going to do in Mexico to give management what they are looking for. I don’t see any goals (mention of things to work on) there for Morgan. And in Pearce’s case…it’s tough to get consistency when you aren’t playing.

by Thunder on Sep 10, 2008 8:55 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Well, at least he’ll get Pearce will play there.

Management’s plan for him, if there is one, is a complete mystery to me.

by Charlie on Sep 10, 2008 8:57 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I mean “at least Pearce will play there.”

by Charlie on Sep 10, 2008 8:58 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

JR

wants to win games. Nyjer offers him more of a chance for this at this time. Why some on here can’t see that is beyond explanation.

by Hitman Easler on Sep 10, 2008 8:54 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I see the Drive For 75 is alive.

Because winning games is completely irrelevant in 2008. I want to win games in 2009, 2010 and onwards. Nyjer Morgan won’t help do that. We don’t know if Steve Pearce will help, and why some on here can’t see that is beyond explanation.

by matskralc on Sep 10, 2008 9:04 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Not only that, but Pearce’s numbers this year are better than Morgan’s. Not sure where Mr. Easler gets the idea that it’s obvious Morgan gives them a better chance to win.

by Charlie on Sep 10, 2008 9:07 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

How do you know Nyjer will not help?

How do you know Babe Ruth Pearce will help? What in the holy hell makes you think Pearce has potential? A hundred homers in single A?

All I ask is for you Pearce lovers to actually watch the games. Morgan has led to more runs for the PBC, undeniably.\

Once Pearce does the same I willl be on his bandwagon.

by Hitman Easler on Sep 10, 2008 9:09 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

WooHoo!!!!!!!!!

Minor league numbers make you s superstar!

by Hitman Easler on Sep 10, 2008 9:12 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

"Morgan has led to more runs for the PBC, undeniably."

Dude, that’s just untrue. I’m not going to bother tracking down Runs Created or VORP, but:

Steve Pearce 2008 in Pittsburgh: .246/.316/.377
Nyjer Morgan 2008 in Pittsburgh: .236/.305/.292

I’m not saying there’s a huge difference, but come ON.

by EmmaOMG on Sep 10, 2008 9:13 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Those look like numbers, you dork, and I don’t see numbers runnin around on the Tee Vee now!

by matskralc on Sep 10, 2008 9:15 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

VORP

Pearce: -0.6
Morgan: -5.3

Nyjer Morgan is so bad that his offense has cost us half of a win just by itself this year and he’s only had 119 plate appearances.

But his grit, hustle,

and ear-to-ear smile can’t be measured in “wins”. Stick that in your pipe and smoke it, spreadsheet boy.

by matskralc on Sep 10, 2008 9:56 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

This team is really bad

18 games left and 84 losses already. Can we make 100 losses?

by shayborg on Sep 10, 2008 8:37 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Gorzelanny’s hurt.

by Charlie on Sep 10, 2008 8:57 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Looks like just a finger...

If that’s the case it’s not too serious. I hope that’s right.

Charlie and Bloggers

I made a mistake and just posted my thread at the end of the “Matt Wieters Named Minor League Player Of The Year” thread.

It is VERY IMPORTANT that all Bucs Dugout bloggers read this post and act accordingly!!!

I have stayed out of

the pissing contest so far, gunner, but it does seem you’re becoming quite petulant .

Perhaps you could start your own blog?

Made us all snap, I think. We are directing our anger at each other instead of the true Axis Of Evil: Bonifay/McClatchy/Littlefield. The terrorists have won. :-(

Was it something I said? What’s the problem? It’s only Pirate baseball!

Hey look!

Nyjer doubles to tie the game!! I can sense the excitement throughout this thread…

by Raise the Jolly Roger on Sep 10, 2008 9:30 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

LOL

It’s like he hears us and is just egging us on.

by matskralc on Sep 10, 2008 9:32 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

As he surely would!

by Charlie on Sep 10, 2008 9:34 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

That's the thing

I think he’s a terrible, terrible baseball player but from what I know and have heard of him, I certainly wouldn’t mind hanging out with the guy.

by matskralc on Sep 10, 2008 9:57 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Hope that’s enough to de-establish my racist cred!!!!!

by matskralc on Sep 10, 2008 9:58 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah, he would definitely be my favorite player if he were any good at all.

I always felt the same way about Jeromy Burnitz. The guy cracked South Park jokes on the scoreboard and knew he sucked, but damn, he was just so bad when he was here.

Meanwhile, back at the game

WIll somebody please nudge JR and wake him up. It was time to pull Bautista about 2 batters ago.

There about about 15 pitchers on this roster, right?

AND.......

my stupid brother happens to have Tejada on his fantasy team…and I’m playing him in the 1st round of the playoffs. GAH!

(Haren/‘Halladay both sucking today hasn’t helped either)

I used to play fantasy baseball to give me something to root for after May. But geez, when it rains it’s pouring on you!

Thanks, Matskaric

My error. The fourth man is Hitman Easler to work with Nyjer on his speed and to help carry his water. My mistake. Thanks for catching it. You should at least be at the AAA or maybe AA level. You are a definite prospect!

In the TAM-BOS game,

JBay up, 2 out, bottom of 10th, winning run on 3rd…and he chops one to ss for the third out.

Nate is still a beast

1-2 pitch from a lefty and he lines it down the left field line for an RBI double. Pirates are within 4…

97 MPH fastball with a lot of sink, tight 89 MPH slider, and most importantly some sense of the zone…

Dunno, I stopped watching

And the game is over anyway. 7-4 Astros. Bucs gain a game on the Mariners in the Strasburg sweepstakes; the Nats lost and the Padres are losing.
