But no Luigi :(

I think JR has a rule that Pearce, Triple-M and Luigi cannot all start a game.

And why is Rivas still getting starts?? Bixler & Cruz should be getting all the IF starts.

I hope for the best.....

But Duke is pitching. I am expecting a 2-9 loss. I also believe his last three starts have been pretty good, which means the real Duke should be coming back out tonight. Hope I am wrong.

yeah

he was on Floridia (as his MLB photo suggests)….released
Then SF….realeased (realeased from san fran? ouch)
Now Astros are playing him almost every day….scary

At least we know we can just pitch him low and away sliders all day to strike him out

I inadvertantly

tuned into the White Sox game on my way to the Cubs/Redbirds game, and hadda hear Hawk Harrelson piss and moan about the Sox not getting calls:

“If they keep this up, they’ll be using replay all the time.”

What a jqagoff.

WSCR radio

has Steve Stone doing Color with Ed (I AM ALWAYS RIGHT) Farmer. It’s not as fun as listening to Ron (OH, MY GOD!) Santo on WGN, though.

I like Stone. He’s quite good, except when he has to stoop down to Farmer’s level.

Oswalt has faced 9 batters

throught the first 3 IP. Very efficient.

How scary is the thought that at the end of the year Zach Duke will have the second best 2008 ERA of any PBC starting pitcher?

JR's quote in the PG tomorrow

“Duke pitched well for us except when he didn’t.”

Isn’t it the bench coach’s job to nudge the manager awake when the SP has totally lost it in the middle innings and make sure he brings in a starter?

In JR’s universe is it against the law to remove a pitcher except at the end of an inning?

are the Pirates even trying anymore?

I’m serious. can anyone who is watching this epic disaster of a baseball franchise lurch into another loss tell that they (players, coaches, everyone) are even trying at all to win these remaining games?

by gonfalon on Sep 11, 2008 9:54 PM EDT reply actions

I was about to write the same thing

It seems like the coaches and pitching has given up. I miss the days when the PBC would use 5 pitchers in one inning.

Is Capps even still on the team? He might as well bring a rocking chair to the stadium, or offer to sell peanuts in the stands.

The position players seem to be trying (even Luigi, despite what Joe Torre a$$ kissers write), but with McLouth and Doumit in slumps there’s absolutely nobody for opposing pitchers to fear in the lineup.

If I were Huntington, I’d tell JR not to play anyone over 25 the rest of the way. Let the AAA’ers get some experience.

by WstCstBucco on Sep 11, 2008 10:01 PM EDT up reply actions

anytime you have more errors than hits,

that’s some wretched baseball. I agree, let the AAA’ers play the rest of the way, and maybe we’ll end up with the #1 pick next year.

by gonfalon on Sep 11, 2008 10:09 PM EDT up reply actions

Jesse Chavez seems nice at least

Maybe it’s just the Astros, who have successfully made Tyler Yates and Craig Hansen look good this series, but Chavez is throwing a hard 96 MPH fastball and a nasty 81 MPH slider. 4 Ks, a walk, and an infield single so far in 1.2 innings.

by shayborg on Sep 11, 2008 10:04 PM EDT reply actions

Chavez

He just turned 25 last month so he’s ok with me.

by WstCstBucco on Sep 11, 2008 10:07 PM EDT up reply actions

Meanwhile ...

look up the season line for Jair Jurrgens, who beat the Rox tonight to go 13-9. It’s pretty good considering he’s FREAKIN’ 22. Now remind me: Didn’t we have a chance to snag him from Detroit but we (and by “we” I mean that idiot moron Littlefield) got hung up on worthless Craig Monroe?

Yeah. That’s what I thought.
