McClendon's . . . er . . . Tracy's . . . er . . . Russell's lineup

The idiocy continues. Morgan AND Michaels starting over Pearce against a LHP. Chavez and Gomez starting over Bixler and Diaz/Paulino. Three guys who are going to be free agents or non-tendered, and aren’t good players anyway—Michaels, in fact, has been horrible as a starter. The alternatives aren’t exactly impressive, but is this team trying to build for the future or not?

Morgan’s OPS against LHPs in AAA: .511
Pearce’s OPS against LHPs in AAA: .802

Obviously, They Are Showcasing ...

…Morgan and Michaels.

I am surprised that Minky and Rivas aren’t in there as well!

You never know what the four of them might bring in a package deal - maybe a box of fireworks for one of next year’s promotions.

I am totally mystified by Russell… completely, utterly, totally mystified.

A little investigative reporting will probably disclose a Philadelphia connection between the Russell and Coonington families.

Blake Dewitt vs Andy LaRoche

Is there any comparison?

That is why we have two LaRoches.

by thegunner on Sep 18, 2008 1:33 PM EDT reply actions

I meant "Coonelly" families!

I’ll leave Huntington out of this, for now.

Raul Chavez...

… is the best “receiver” aeen at PNC in some time.

The man knows how to call a game and handle pitchers.

Charlie ...

Thanks for lending me your blog!

Top of The 7th

Maholm has walked Kemp and gone 3-0 to a bunting Dewitt.

He is tired, Russell.

Better get him out of there.

by thegunner on Sep 18, 2008 2:23 PM EDT reply actions

There's A Lotta Luck In Baseball!

Swinging bunt basehit by Ethier.

Maholm almost got out of it.

Lucky that Maholm got Ramirez.

Russell is an idiot having let Maholm pitch to him.

Wow – just popped on the site to see if there was any news. I didn’t realize they were playing right now. Sigh….. it’s been a long 16 years.

Pay Attention, EStreet!!!

It’s been one of the better games this year!

by thegunner on Sep 18, 2008 2:55 PM EDT up reply actions

Lay Off Chvez, Please

He is the best defensive catcher the Pirates have.

If Doumit were catching, Maholm may not have pitched as well, and if he had gotten the throw off on Kemp’s steal, Kemp would be standing on 3B now.

by thegunner on Sep 18, 2008 2:57 PM EDT reply actions

actually

a fair number of doumits SBs can be placed squarely on pitchers doing nothing to hold the batter on

by poorboywilly on Sep 18, 2008 2:59 PM EDT up reply actions

and at any rate

it would probably be 5-3 if doumit were playing

by poorboywilly on Sep 18, 2008 2:59 PM EDT up reply actions

Poor Matt Kemp!

I like him, but thank God he doesn’t understand how to play the game!

by thegunner on Sep 18, 2008 3:04 PM EDT reply actions

Double Dose Of LaRoches

Adam – called third strike – fastball right down the middle – Adam obviously guessing curve ball.

Andy – feeble check swing strike 3 on a curve ball in the dirt.

They were separated by four years at birth. They should at least be seperated by four men in the batting order.

is starting to get the hang of these things called “pitching changes”.

I like his ability to learn new things everyday.

SO wheres the Nyjer bashing?

I heard that play on the radio and I am confused.

by Raise the Jolly Roger on Sep 18, 2008 3:40 PM EDT reply actions

No Nyjer Bashing

It was a worthwhile risk in my opinion. Dewitt had to make a great recovery and a perfect throw.

Wondering the same… whaaaa just happened?

by jlk9697 on Sep 18, 2008 3:45 PM EDT reply actions

So let me guess...

Morgan stays at third…LaRoche’s fly out is a SF…game over? Instead…inning 11 coming up.

by Thunder on Sep 18, 2008 3:45 PM EDT reply actions

Yes, It Was Close

In my opinion, he took a good, calculated risk and Dewitt had to make a perfect play.

Who's up

in the ’pen?

When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro. -- HST

by cocktailsfor2 on Sep 18, 2008 3:52 PM EDT reply actions

Paul Meyer says this:
Michaels hit a bouncer to Park, who tried to throw out McLouth at second, but nobody covered. Park’s throw almost zipped into center field, but Dewitt was able to make a diving stop. The ball rolled out of his glove and Morgan tried to score, but catcher Martin made a great stop on a short hop and survived Morgan’s charge into him to get the out at the plate. Joe Beimel is in to face Adam LaRoche — who flied to left on the first pitch. On to the 11th.

by Raise the Jolly Roger on Sep 18, 2008 3:53 PM EDT reply actions

seems more to me like a
