September Call Ups

According to the Post Gazette the Bucs have called up pitchers Ross Ohlendorf (who will start tomorrow), String Beam, (the water cooler abusing) Craig Hansen, Romulo! and Marino Salas; infielders Brian Bixler and Luis Cruz; outfielder Steve Pearce; and catchers Ronny Paulino and (the recently traded for) Robinzon Diaz. All are from AAA Indy.

I am disapointed not to see Andrew McClutchen on this list, but glad to see Ohledorf, Beam, Pearce and Diaz coming up. I am indifferent to everyone else, though Hansen, Romulo! and Salas fit in with fire making bullpen.

Nyjer started over Pearce---again

It’s been stated over & over that Nyjer is not seen as a legit option for the future of the PBC. Obviously, by not playing Pearce, he’s not a legit option for the future either. Guess I overvalued him.

You're not wrong about Pearce.

They’re just deploying a sub-optimal lineup. Unfortunately.

Ty Taubenheim

I asked elsewhere but no one answered me, so is there a reason that he was released?

I made most of my life decisions at a Foghat concert... I stand by them.

We needed/wanted a 40-man roster spot for Cruz

Taubenheim hadn’t pitched too well at AAA this year (5.60 ERA in 98 IP), he didn’t have a very high ceiling, and he was injured and out for the rest of the year, so he got the ax. Personally, I might have dropped Belisario first, but it’s a reasonable decision.

They could probably get him back as a NRI for next season if they wanted.

Ty, Nyjer, and Pearce

I am not sure what is up with Taubenheim, he sure looks better then Yoslan Herrera. As for Nyjer and Pearce, my guess is that they believe Nyjer has a bigger upside than Pearce, who outside of last year has shown little.
