Go Get um Bucs!
OK, one week to go and we have a chance to bury the Brew Crew. I am not hopeful with Karstens on the mound but maybe our hitters can get some early runs. Then the bullpen can come in and hold ’em off.
Go Buccos!
as much as I'd like to see the Pirates win these games,
… I’d rather see the Brewers as the wild card team, and the Mets left out of the postseason again.
Brandon Moss's knee

Any bets on whether the knee guy in Vail will agree with Dr. DeMeo?
Do we want to know?
It could just cause even more frustration…
The Utah Jazz. The Jazz... duh.

It seems like Pearce gets the nod
at least for tonight

This week...
is likely Steven Pearce’s only chance to escape the crypt under the Clemente Bridge. If he doesn’t play 5 of the next 6 games, at least…it’s safe to assume that he’s no longer in the Pirates plans…no matter what happens next spring. With LaRoche and Moss both down…there’s plenty of room for him to play.
Yeah. Unfortunately, there’s only six games left. It’s too bad, in a way.

Man, it’s got to be pretty hard for someone like Jeff Karstens to function with a leaky defense.

Hated to see Nate ...

No
He wouldn’t have got it anyway. The Bucs are not good enough for recognition – other than losing.
6 games to go
Does anyone want to start a Steve Pearce deathwatch? I figure if he doesn’t hit at least .400 with 2-3 HR’s in this last week, his future with the PBC is toast.
Or am I too late? Is he already Zombie Steve Pearce, just playing out the string while Nyjer Morgan preps for the 600 ABs he’s going to get for the 2009 PBC as the regular LF (with 0 HR, a .700 OPS, 30 SB and 35 CS)?
And 10 RBI

Morgan is hitting the ball.
Pearce needs to learn how (not necessarily from him, but whatever).

Morgan had a .689 OPS on the year going into the game today. It’s amazing to me that people think his season has gone well.

I mean, I know that’s not necessarily what you said.
by Charlie Wilmoth on Sep 23, 2008 9:29 PM EDT up reply actions
Yeah...
not implying he’s having a good season or anything.
Just that whenever I “watch”, Nyjer will pull off a hit or 2 (more likely 2), and Pearce (if he’s playing) will generally struggle to get on base.

Nyjer has been hitting lately, you can't deny that
What you can deny is:
A) if it means anything
B) if it will continue
Personally: Nyjer and Pearce are both stopgaps until either/both Cutch/Tabata make it to the big club, which is hopefully some point next yr (for Cutch at least). In my mind the real debate is who is the better bench player—which tells you that it isn’t that big of a deal

Steve Pearce deathwatch
The Brewers pull their SP rather than have him face the Dread Pirate Pearce. The legendary Todd Coffey can’t get Pearce out — single up the middle. Go Pearce!!
Luis Cruz and Brian Bixler
If they trade Jack Wilson, 2009 is going to be a looooooooonnnnnnng season.
I can’t believe they’d actually go with Cruz and Bixler if that happened.

I live in Chicago
and I’m a Bucco fan. I LIVE for the moment the Cubs get bounced.
Then alla the pissant Cubs fans cry in their Old Style all winter, ’cause the Bears chew balls, too ;-)

ah, Chicago
I was up there in April, went to Wrigley, and saw the Bucs lose 13-1!
Great atmosphere and stuff, but man, my dislike for them has grown exponentially since that day.
Soldier Field is the ugliest structure known to man. I liked Chicago in general, though

Morgan was...
almost…kinda…sorta…close to 2nd base…about 7 feet. Real lucky he didn’t get called out for interference.
It's kinda surreal
watching Gagne throw 91-92 mph fastballs. That used to be his slider.
He threw 97-98 mph consistently in his glory days with the Dodgers. Better living through science I guess.
When did the Brewers acquire Mike Lamb?

Did Nyjer think Nolan Ryan was pitching?
He was WAY over in left center…as if Cameron couldn’t turn on a Chavez fastball. Way out of position…and his candy arm throw didn’t even make it to Cruz…who dropped it anyway. A good throw…and there would have been a play at the plate.
Nyger could have ...
out ran his own throw to the plate.

Dude,
she had a great sense of humour. She’d have loved that one.
She was also a life-long Pirates fan, and she made it well into her eighties. She would have a thing or fifty to say about the current team(s).

I'd be interested to know who decides on
positioning of the Pirates outfielder. Is it the players…or a coach (like maybe Frazier)?? We’ve seen several times tonight…and recently…outfielders appearing to be way out of position…this time it was Pearce.
It could be worse...
Duffy could still be in the equation in ST…
