who are these people??

by poorboywilly on Sep 5, 2008 9:05 PM EDT reply actions

So...

which organization will Steve Pearce be in next year?? Obviously, not Pittsburgh’s.

by Thunder on Sep 5, 2008 9:13 PM EDT reply actions

Maybe

we can trade him for Xavier Nady

by poorboywilly on Sep 5, 2008 9:27 PM EDT up reply actions

Pearce will be in AAA...

until he improves his plate discipline or goes on another tear a la 2007. Honestly, I’m not a huge fan of Morgan but if you look at the way each player progresses throughout the season, Morgan has earned the majority of starts. I’m not at all upset by this. He’s young in terms of service time, has speed and makes the occassional highlight reel play in the field. I don’t think NH values his skill set but other GMs are still obsessed with speed and true leadoff hitter types (see Juan Pierre). I’m hoping by playing Morgan will increase his trade value and we can send him off in the winter with some other players.

Pearce will be with the team when he is ready and he is clearly not ready for an every day job.

by Slick1 on Sep 5, 2008 9:44 PM EDT reply actions

Let me add...

that I don’t think that Michaels or Minty should be seeing regular playing time over Pearce though if we are supposed to be seeing what the young guys can do.

by Slick1 on Sep 5, 2008 9:47 PM EDT reply actions

Would you go out on a limb

and say that Pearce plays more in SF and Houston than Michaels or Minky?? From recent history, I wouldn’t go out on that limb myself.

by Thunder on Sep 5, 2008 9:56 PM EDT up reply actions

Look at the 40 man roster people!

ALL of the non pitching spots are currently active. We know Neil Walker must be added…or will likely get sucked up in the Rule V.

Who isn’t going to be back next year?? At best…I see Chavez, and 2 of 4 (Minky, Michaels, Gomez, Rivas) not coming back. More likely only 1 of the 4 disappears…probably Minky. That leaves 1 slot for anyone else in the system that isn’t a pitcher that needs protected, like maybe a Jason Delaney.

Short of a roster blowup…which is possible…Steve Pearce won’t be on the 25 man roster next year…and extremely possible, if not likely, that he won’t be on the 40 man either.

Between Walker, Pearce and Delaney, I bet we lose one or two to Rule V.

by Thunder on Sep 5, 2008 10:04 PM EDT reply actions

no he was there, but he could not have thrown a better ball to 2nd

I've

Last time we played, Nyjer Morgan was the only “Wait, What?” player on the Pirates.

well, we don’t recognize half your guys. but then we realized you probably don’t recognize half of ours either

by northsidenotch on Sep 5, 2008 10:53 PM EDT up reply actions

We get that a lot

The Breakdown
Eugenio Velez (aka Fast Black Abraham Lincoln): bad defensive second base, with a little pop and a lot of speed.
Manny Burriss: Punchless switch-hitting shortstop, until recently an absolute cipher from the left side.
Pablo Sandoval: Fat catcher who will swing at (and hit) anything. Gets some play at 3B and 1B.
Nate Schierholtz: blocked right field prospect who caused an international incident at the olympics. Decent power and average, but too many K’s and too few walks.

Travis Denker can hit a little. That's why I drive his bus.

by oldjacket on Sep 5, 2008 11:00 PM EDT up reply actions

And for us...

Nyjer Morgan…remember Rajai Davis?
Andy LaRoche…sure you saw some of him with the Dodgers…hasn’t shown much since the Manny trade.
Brandon Moss…see Nate Schierholtz…except with the Red Sox.

by Thunder on Sep 5, 2008 11:09 PM EDT up reply actions

I checked up Morgan after last series, he’s from around here and he’s officially on my list of guys to pull for.

I just watched Rajai jack one for the A’s. I miss that guy. He’s a fun player, and very good at not being Matt Morris.
