Good for Morgan for walking, but I can’t believe the new management keeps wasting plate appearances on him.

Huh

that guy Pat Maholm is back on the mound.

I wonder if he is related to Paul Maholm.

Missed the top of the first...

how did Nyjer get doubled on a line drive to 2B?

by Thunder on Sep 6, 2008 9:16 PM EDT reply actions

it was a soft liner

so it looked off the bat like maybe it was into the outfield. Plus a very strong throw by the 2B. The bottom line is he should have frozen instead of breaking a step.

by poorboywilly on Sep 6, 2008 9:17 PM EDT up reply actions

wow was that a beauty

of an inning or what?

now lets get a lead

by poorboywilly on Sep 6, 2008 9:18 PM EDT reply actions

Kind of amazing to me that Cain’s ERA is only marginally better than Maholm’s. I guess that says more about Maholm than about Cain. Maholm is really having a pretty remarkable season.

Who in the world is “S. McClain”? Wow.

by Charlie Wilmoth on Sep 6, 2008 10:08 PM EDT reply actions

Scott McClain

had a pretty nice run in Japan from 2001-2004. He put up good numbers in the 2001 and 2003 seasons, but wrist injuries limited him in the other two. He`s the kind of 4A player that seems to have success more often than not in Japan, but just doesn`t quite have it for MLB.

At 36, the Giants probably view him as a prospect.

by Charlie Wilmoth on Sep 6, 2008 10:08 PM EDT reply actions

he became the oldest rookie to hit a homer the other day

by northsidenotch on Sep 6, 2008 10:10 PM EDT up reply actions

Sort of but ...

four hits including a homer and a walk but only one run. Not as bad as it could have been.

by WestCoastBuc on Sep 6, 2008 10:29 PM EDT up reply actions

alright

McLouth…my fantasy team needs you

by poorboywilly on Sep 6, 2008 10:24 PM EDT reply actions

why doesn’t Maholm get the outside corner???

by poorboywilly on Sep 6, 2008 10:25 PM EDT reply actions

don't know

but the home plate ump definately gave Cain the same pitch he wouldn’t give to Maholm 3 or 4 times that inning.

k

just hoping I wasn’t crazy

Nate

comes through again!

So does anyone know the correct ruling on the play in the bottom

of the Giants 4th? For those who didn’t see it, DF had guys on 1st and 2nd and the batter hit a soft liner to the SS. Cuz knocked it down and Molina who was on 2nd retreated to 2nd. Cruz threw to Sanchez, who was standing on second and after making the catch tagged Molina. The ump called both runners out. The Giant announcers say that because Freddy was on second when he made the catch it erased the force on Molina and he should have been safe. That seems to make sense but it is hard to believe that the ump wouldn’t know the rule. It was clear that Sanchez touched second before he made the tag.

by WestCoastBuc on Sep 6, 2008 10:42 PM EDT reply actions

I’m pretty sure Molina should not have been out

Just got home from the Pitt game

Woohoo..we beat mighty Buffalo by 11. I was representing by blasting the pirate game on the radio in the parking lot though

by Raise the Jolly Roger on Sep 6, 2008 10:47 PM EDT reply actions

yeah

i left the blowout we were putting on here in Louisville to go home and watch the game. It wasn’t pretty, but at least they won. Buffalo isn’t that terrible either. They just blew out UTEP, who is beating Texas right now…

by northsidenotch on Sep 6, 2008 10:51 PM EDT up reply actions

well

we did kinda lose to bowling green last week. What an awful season so far for the big east but you have to love WVU losing. ECU is the bomb!

by Raise the Jolly Roger on Sep 6, 2008 10:54 PM EDT up reply actions

JR

why leave Bautista in to implode?

Not like the bullpen isn’t rested.

by Hitman Easler on Sep 6, 2008 11:23 PM EDT reply actions

Maholm should

walk over to Bautista and kick him in the nuts.

by WstCstBucco on Sep 6, 2008 11:25 PM EDT reply actions

I strongly agree

what a miserable inning. The sad part is it was the right move to take out Paul

by Raise the Jolly Roger on Sep 6, 2008 11:29 PM EDT up reply actions

it was

we don’t need him turning all Gorzellany next year.

by poorboywilly on Sep 6, 2008 11:36 PM EDT up reply actions

Man,

we are making Scott McClain look like a real major leaguer.

It says a lot about a pitcher like Bautista when you give up a HR to someone like McClain.

The Pirates are sorting through players now and looking at what moves they want to make with the 40-man roster in the offseason.

Bautista doesn`t impress. Don`t get too comfortable in Pittsburgh.

by patthatt on Sep 6, 2008 11:29 PM EDT reply actions

It was actually Grabow who gave up the HR

to McClain. And as long as Maholm is going around kicking guys in the nuts he might consider aiming one at JR. He seems to have a real knack for seclecting the wrong reliever thought I suppose that one could argue he doesn’t have much to work with.

by WestCoastBuc on Sep 6, 2008 11:39 PM EDT up reply actions

I`ve had enough of this-

this isn`t MLB. A few big leaguers on both teams, but a bunch of minor league hacks, too. You guys enjoy the rest of it.

The Steelers are ready to open the season.

by patthatt on Sep 6, 2008 11:34 PM EDT reply actions

Don't leave now

Luigi has 3 hits tonite, including a double. He’s quietly putting together his first good week wth the PBC.

Only 16 points under the Mendoza line. It’s things like this that keep a Pirate fan going.

by WstCstBucco on Sep 6, 2008 11:38 PM EDT up reply actions

ugh

one disadvantage of September…a bullpen large enough to do THIS

by poorboywilly on Sep 6, 2008 11:36 PM EDT reply actions

that was the worst call

I’ve seen in a LOOOOOOONG time…that ball was about 8 inches off the plate. What was that about calling more strikes with non contenders?

by poorboywilly on Sep 6, 2008 11:58 PM EDT reply actions

"what a pitch"

and by what a pitch, I mean what a call…

by poorboywilly on Sep 7, 2008 12:00 AM EDT up reply actions

Boy oh boy

That truly sucked

Go Steelers!

by WstCstBucco on Sep 7, 2008 12:04 AM EDT reply actions

Oh, Denny Bautista

You are not good at pitching. Btw, does anyone else think Ryan Shealy is the next Ryan Ludwick?
