Michael Young?

Star shortstop Michael Young has requested a trade from the Rangers. He is owed 62 million dollars a year for the next 5 years. Thats not a bad price for a player of his caliber. I think it would be a great idea for the Pirates to make a move after Young. Even if we have to give up a few decent prospects and maybe a good big leaguer. He would give us a top tier player for the next 5 season. He can shortstop and second base. He is requesting a trade because the Rangers are forcing him to move to third base and not giving him any choice. Cmon Buccos step up and get this guy if the Rangers are desperate to move him.

No way we should take on that contract for a guy who’s 32 and worth about a win or two a year. His defense has always been lousy and his bat has been steadily declining over the past three years.

The idea scares me.

Advanced metrics don’t like his defense at all, he’s at an age where he’s probably heading into his decline phase, and he’s due a HUGE amount of money. There were years when he was a good shortstop, but he’s not a good bet going forward.

he’s not likely to stay at shortstop with his defense and the reason he’s asking for a trade is because he doesn’t want to switch to 3b, where his defense (but not his bat) would play better. sounds like some trouble that i’d rather not have us trade prospects while rebuilding to get into.

ummm no

he has a no-trade clause and something tells me that he is probably not going to waive it for the burg. we should be trying to trade for young talent not expensive deteriorating talent. jack and freddie will probably be the least of our problems this year. if both stay healthy they should both post career lines which would be just fine.

Ok

Fair enough. I just wanted to throw the idea out there. Hes my brothers favorite player. But lets talk about Pedro Martinez my favorite player.. The bucs need to get on it with this guy. Supposedly hes narrowed his list down to a few teams, we need to swoop in for the kill haha. We need to get SOMEBODY. I realize we shouldnt spend money just to spend it, but ill literally take ANYBODY. Sign Bonds or even Rickey Henderson, neither of them have officially retired.
