Doug Mientkiewicz Not Coming Back
MLB.com reports that after several months of waiting for the Pirates to make an offer, Doug Mientkiewicz is moving on. It doesn't sound like the Pirates are particularly interested in him.

am i the only one who thinks this is a bad thing?
At the end of the year, actually the majority of the it, Mientkiewicz seemed to be the only Bucco who cared about the team’s record. He always played hard, lit a fire under his teammates, and wasn’t afraid to call them out for mistakes (something our manager needs to take a lessen on). Sure he is aging and is a utility player at best, but wouldn’t cost much.
Doug seemed to will us to a few victories, even while on the bench, which few current Pirates have the fire or mentality to do. More importantly, he has a World Series ring, knows how to win, and at times that winning mentality can transfer over to the rest of them. Even fewer (if any) of the current players can say that.

I was about to post that I’d sure rather have Doug in left field than Nyjer Morgan. Then I looked at their numbers.

You look at Morgan's minor league numbers, too?
I bet Dougie Ballgame could’ve done better than a .722 OPS at AAA last year.
Nyjer is the new Tike Redman. And if we give him significant playing time this year, he’ll prove it.

The new Redman?
Does that mean he’s gonna bat third?

oh man i forgot about that.
a friend of mine was so confident tike redman was going to succeed we convinced him to draft tike in the first round of our fantasy baseball league. he of course never recovered from that pick.
what kind of lousy computer simulations could have possibly told DL that was a good idea?

No. Now come on
Nyjer doesn’t have Tike’s power. No way he bats 3rd.

Thre epoints:
1. Dougie’s not very good.
2. Dougie’s old, so he’s not getting better.
3. Pissing off Randy Johnson is completely irrelevant to points 1 and 2.

Hold the presses!
There is still a possibility Doug Mientkiewicz could be in a Pirate uniform this season.
It might have just been a communication breakdown between Huntington and Mientkiewicz’s side.

Let's Hope So!
It could make the difference between 70 and 71 wins!

He was Solid
He’s not an MVP caliber guy but he was the spark we needed. He was a great presence in the locker room and on the bench, he was passionate about the game and he did bring a solid bat and defense. I have been questioning this all offseason long. What is there to lose in bringing Doug back?
