Non-Roster Players Invited to Spring Training

With the recent signing of Craig Monroe and some other small-name players, I began to wonder which of the non-roster players that were invited to Spring Training would make the team.

In your opinion, which of the 14 players have the best shot at making the team? Which players would you like to see make the team?

Pitchers: Denny Bautista, Chris Bootcheck, Daniel Haigwood, Juan Mateo, Daniel McCutchen, and Brian Slocum.

Catcher: Miguel Perez

Infielders: Garrett Jones, Pedro Lopez, Anderson Machado, and Andy Phillips.

Outfielders: Andrew McCutchen, Craig Monroe, Jeff Salazar.

Leaving aside Mateo and the two McCutchens, who are on a different path from the others, the answer is . . . . . . . . . . . none, please God, NONE!

You don't like Salazar?

He’s not a very good fit for the roster, but I like the talent.

Out of that bunch, I think that Montoe (unfortunately) has the best chance of making the team out of ST as things stand right now. If you want the one with the best chance of making the roster right out of the gate AND being at least a little bit useful, I’d put my money on Slocum, maybe with a hedge on Phillips. The two McCutchens, Mateo, and Salazar have the most overall talent (probably in that order) and the best chance at a significant role down the road, but I think all four will get shuffled off stage in the fairly early going this spring and then return later.

Bautista

Not that I really want him to make the team but I think he’s the most likely candidate.

I made most of my life decisions at a Foghat concert... I stand by them.

Monroe

I like most of the things that Hunington has done but I thought we were done with these kinds of signings. Here’s hoping he has a comeback season just dont see this one at all.

Guys like Monroe often have comeback seasons . . . . . . . . . . . . . in Japan.
